Editorial Reviews

The melodic foursome, who have taken inspiration from such greats as Elvis Costello and the Foo Fighters deliver an imaginative, unique blend of Australian rock. With a strong friendship and determination to succeed, this will undoubtedly be one of 2004’s finest Australian rock albums. 13 tracks. Warner. 2004.

5.0 out of 5 stars Go to hell for those who doesn't like this band, December 14, 2004
This review is from: Thirsty Merc (Audio CD)
Hey, this band rocks like.....&%*&%*(&%(*^%!!!!!!!!! I can't even find a word to describe how awesome this band is. Tell me, are there bands that sound like thirsty merc....NO.....that's why this band is unique. And people who cannot take the fact that this band is really trying to make good music (like the guys who wrote the previous review, ehm, ehm!!) well, then I assume you know nothing about music and how the vintage style, as in the 60's era is really coming back. Come on, don't be so narrow minded and try something different, for instant thirtsy merc. These guys are awesome...totally! and they are Australian. Isn't good to see some australian music rise up again, instead of some crap 'I wanna be Justin Timberlake' band form other countries!!! Dude!! Listen, buy their album.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Thisty Merc Rock, September 8, 2005

bob bobson "BOB" (Canberra, ACT, AUS) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Thirsty Merc (Audio CD)
this album kicks ass! i bought it after hearing emancipate myself and wasting time, and it is one of my most listened cds half a year later. Each song has a different feel to it, and with most bands these days regurgitating the same sound in every song this is a nice change.

My completeness - on of my favourites, the slow beginning leads into a pop rock verse and chorus. 9 / 10

Emancipate Myself - a terrific mix of genres, the verses made me laugh the first time i heard them, but theyre so cleverly constructed. 9/10

Undivided Love - a nice slow one, not personally one of my favourites, but it is easy listening music. 8 / 10

I wish somebody would build a bridge - My favourite, again, cleverly constructed verses, and a good chorus, a nice rocky sound to it as well. 10/10

In the Summertime - Another strong sounding song, verse guitar is a bit repetative, but aagin, great easy listening music. 9/10

Someday, Someday - My 2nd favourite, the verses are in the same vein as emancipate myself, but the chorus is really heartfelt, a rocky ballad. 10/10

Hope - the slowest song on the record, not one of my favourites, but it is sucha strong song, a great sound, so peacefully serene. 8/10

Katie Q - One of the more rocky ones by the sound at the beginning, but is more poppy in the chorus. One of the less strong songs on the record. 8/10

Baby Tell Me I'm The Only One - The voice in this song sounds different to the other songs on the cd, repetitave verse, but excellent chorus, another love song done well with rocky guitar 9/10

Wasting Time - The first single (i think) of the album, clever verse, this could be the signature sound of thirsty merc. 9/10

Everything But You - An acoustic song, easy listening, but maybe not one of their better songs on the record. 8/10

Claude Monet - A strange title for a strange song, but it definetly is a good one, A poppy sounding one, but with a nice variation of chord shapes make it unique. 9/10

Like Snow - A good ending to the album, another slow track, but this one has enough substance to make it rocky at the same time. 9/10

Again, an awesome album, go and buy it and support new Australian tallent!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty impressive for a first album, November 4, 2005
This review is from: Thirsty Merc (Audio CD)
While Thirsty Merc are not up to the standard of, say, Missy Higgins or Jet, their album is still a great buy. While ballad-ish songs tend to be overlooked on any album which combines them with more mainstream pop/rock tracks, the Merc's offering is solid and easy to listen to. The combination of genres on this album suggests that perhaps the band haven't quite found their style yet, but I think this makes the record more interesting. New fans of Thirsty Merc will enjoy their hit 'Someday, Someday' and the fantastic track 'When The Weather is Fine'. A great album from a band with a definite future.
