Amazingly Hot!,
This review is from: Thirteen Hours (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book. At first I too thought this book would be all about two woman trapped in an elevator for 13 hours. However, the book actually surprised me with a very good story of what happens once they finally get off the elevator. Great character development with both woman. Each realizing they were completely wrong about their first impressions of each other.
Dana comes out of her all work no play persona (she is a nympho) and Laurel is not a really the slutty stripper she was initially believed to be (but she's no nun either) . Each character has to face their insecurities and trust issues and realize that they can have faith, belief and rely on one another. There is a lot of hot steamy sex in this one so be prepared. This book is a great read so sit back and enjoy the lustful ride. Way to go me Meghan.

There are already many reviews which list the virtues of the book in terms of hot, hotter, and hottest. And they are all true! Hot it is!
I'd just like to add that it's a dynamic, entertaining read, and the one reason I'm not rating it 5 stars is because it's a bit two-dimensional for my tastes. Personally, I don't think the characters are so very well developed per se, what's fantastically well developed is their sexual persona, which happens practically within a bubble (and I'm not talking about the elevator!), there are no friends to contextualize the relationship, their "work" world is referred to but never brought to the forefront, the family angle is barely touched upon but not really explored... I did have a LOT of fun with it, and I really do recommend this book for hot, fast-paced enjoyment, but in my humble opinion 5 starring a book requires a bit of extra work in terms of "rounding up" the story.

As only Meghan O'Brien can....,

I was first introduced to Meghan O'Brien when I haphazardly purchased Infinite Loop. I was drawn into that story and riveted by the characters O'Brien created. And it is the same for Thirteen Hours. Dana and Laurel are fully developed, three-dimensional characters. I think that's exactly how I see most of O'Brien's work -- character studies. Most of her work doesn't contain highly complex plot lines, but it does involve highly detailed character development. This is something I've always loved.
But even more than that, O'Brien can write some steamy erotica. An this is certainly steamy! The book has something for every sexual palate. You're bound to find something between the covers of this book to make your mouth water. Good work, Meghan.

Romantic and sexy - probably 4.5 stars,

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love this author's way with characterization. She is really able to express and highlight the insecurities people feel in an entertaining and illuminating manner. Also, her ability to bring to life the internal worlds of Introverts provides endless insight and entertainment, and allows for the creation of characters who are unique, sympathetic, and wonderfully human. Add to that a lot of sizzling sex and tender romance and we have a winner.
I was initially worried that this book would all take place within the 13 hours Dana and Laurel spend trapped in an elevator together. Not that that's a bad conceit for a book, per se, but I usually like to get more relationship-development than that. Therefore, I was happy that that set-up was only the introduction to their relationship, one that spans the stops and starts as these two women face their fears and insecurities and trust issues and decide to go for their fantasy of a fulfilling, loving relationship. This author has a unique and talented voice that's refreshing. She seems to specialize in character-study, and I love that. There's some very light bdsm, so if you're terribly averse, you may want to pass on this book. Everyone else should buckle up and prepare to enjoy a sweet and steamy ride.

Hot!,

Now, isn't it funny how perception changes expectation?
Meghan O'Brien's latest novel is billed as an "erotic romance", which I didn't see until I opened the envelope it was shipped in. Within a millisecond, my expectations of plot went down to zero. Imagine my surprise when there was one, and well-plotted characters to boot?!? It's the story of two women, one a workaholic, one introduced as a stripper, who meet when the stripper is sent to the workaholic's workplace as a birthday present. They dislike each other, yadda, yadda, yadda... they get stuck in an elevator together and sex ensues ;) But there is more to their story, the characters are believable and likeable. And there's sex. Lots of hot sex. O'Brien is really good at that, so why shouldn't she exploit her talent. And this time I can't complain about too much sex as it says so on the cover and can be pleasantly surprised by the bonus plot and characters with depth. It's of the same caliber as her previous novels, just moved to the correct category this time.

short on plot and character development, but loaded with plenty of hot scenes between the two main characters. once you start, you won't want to put the book down. you might not want to read this one in public.

HOT HOT HOT,

Since there is a description of the book and others have written about it also, I'll skip that and just say: This book is so hot it will scorch the eyes right out of your skull! What a pleasant surprise. I have never read anything by this author and ordered it on a whim (desperate for something good to read). The description intrigued me enough and am I ever glad I took a chance. I've since ordered Infinite Loop by the same author, but haven't started it yet.
I loved the characters and was sucked into the story from the opening line (and if you've read it already, you know what I mean *wink wink*). Considering almost the first half of the book takes place in an elevator, with only the two main characters present, I was very impressed by the author's ability to keep my interest. I am one of those readers who tend to skip over things that don't look important, but I read every single word in this one (some parts I read more than once). This is erotica with a bit of kink thrown in for good measure. Excellent read and I can't wait to read more by Meghan O'Brien! Highly recommended!

I LOVE THIS FREAKING BOOK!,

This book was too good. It almost made me rethink writing for a little bit. It's pretty much about a lonely, bitchy, workaholic and very closeted woman named Dana who gets a lapdance from a really hot stripper with a phenomenal pair of breasts as a birthday present from an AWESOME friend named Scott. Then an angry, surprised (and very turned on) Dana gives her an earful, commanding her to put her clothes back on and get out of her office. When the stripper does so, Dana insists on escorting her out of the building. So they get into the elevator and it gets stuck. Dana and Laurel the stripper are stuck in the small room for 13 hours. During this time, they learn a lot about one another. Dana stops being too afraid to live and Laurel basically charms her way into Dana's "power dyke suit". After they get out of the elevator, they pursue a serious relationship. And it works out for them happily ever after. I loved this book because it revealed the changes that they both endured in order to be ready to be in a relationship with another person. THis was a very funny book with quite a few gems. Dana's comment "Come like a ninja" about masturbating in her parent's house with her room being in between her brother's and her parents' was one of them. Throughout this book, I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, much like Dana and Laurel. But that's the best part. No fallout! I would advise anyone to get this book. And if I ever meet a Scott who gives me as awesome a gift as Dana's, he'd be my best friend forever.

Thirteen Hours,

Dana Watts is a woman who focuses perhaps a bit too much on her work. One late night while she is working she gets a birthday surprise in the form of a gorgeous dancer named Laurel. She is shocked and angry by the intrusion and escorts the woman out personally. However, things don't go as planned and due to a power outage the elevator they ride in loses power and the two woman are stuck together for quite some time. Thirteen hours.
I won't go any further except to say that this book involves a lot of sex. It's not a bad thing but I would have liked Dana and Laurel's relationship to focus on more than just the great sex they had together. I personally loved the first 130 pages, particularly the entire time they were trapped together in the elevator. To me, that was the most interesting part of the book, plus you got to learn a lot about the two women.
