13 Stars for the Fae,
By Amy Gaillard (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Thirteen Tales of the Fae (Spiral-bound)
I absolutely loved this book from beginning to end. Each tale told so vividly it was more like watching a movie play out than reading a book. Only very talented authors can make a story come to life like that. If you are at all interested in Faeries or Mythology of any kind, you will enjoy this book.

I have not yet read the 13 Tales of the Fae, but I have just completed another book by Clara Gerl called Unearthly Love. She has such a wonderful imagination and will make you not want to put the book down. I have just started on 13 Tales of the Fae. I am sure that I will love it and will update you on what I think. Clara Gerl is the next generation of pure talent.

I have had the pleasure of reading Thirteen Tales of the Fae. It is an energetic collection of vibrant and sparkling stories and more. Fresh and entertaining, it has provided many splendid journeys into the world and mind of "Fairy." A splendid addition to anyone's library - I have read my copy over and over again. This book is reminiscent of the works that clever and imaginative writers created for their audiences in years past. Its sweet and simple presentation is part of what makes it so charming. A great gift book.

This book is amazingly woven together by the common thread of celtic culture and a love of all things beautiful. The stories speak to the reader's soul with pure intentions and verbal mystique...leaving a trail of interest for which the reader is surely to follow.

Thirteen Tales of the Fae is a book that takes a deeper look into the heart and soul of what the Fae really are. Its magic and its beauty will entrance your mind as you read the writings from the Fae Gatekeeper (Gerl), IrishCreme (Brashea), and the late Dreamspinner (Parker). One of my personal favorites is "Moonlight," written by Sean-Perrin "Dreamspinner" Parker. A truly magical story that captured my heart, and will capture yours. IrishCreme spins some wonderful tales as well, and the Fae Gatekeeper opens the doors to her own realm. So come, dance within the Fae Circle...you won't regret it.

I really enjoyed reading this. The characters are lovely, you really get into the 13 tales included in the book. It really appeals to your dreams, a book that sort of grabs on to your soul and doesn't let go. Ever get that feeling? Well, this book appealed to my soft side, like a classic fairytale book you always like to return to. I couldn't put it down. The three writers are very talented. A recomendation: Don't start reading this at night if you plan to wake up early the next day. You'll be up until you finish it. A must for all fantasy and fairytale lovers!! I only don't give it five stars so that you can read it and then say: "Why didn't she give it 5 stars? It's well worth it." Ah, I made you want to read it! What are you waiting for??? READ IT!!!Millennia

Thirteen Tales of the Fae is a magical book in the truest sense. From the very beginning it takes you on an enchanting journey though the realms of Dreams and fantasy. I read it through once and then read it again. Each story is unique and facinating in its own way. The beautiful drawings and intermittent quotes and poetry also add much to the character of this beautifully done book. I recommend any who have a love of the Fae to get this book and read it curled up in a quiet corner.

This review is from: Thirteen Tales of the Fae (Spiral-bound)
The Thirteen Tales comprising this book, sadly, fall somewhat short of being a page-turner. Potentially good storylines are marred by a sense of incompleteness, and further spoiled by grammatical, spelling and punctuation errors that divert the reader's attention from the tales themselves. The hallmarks of good writing include believable, complete characters and reality in the dialogue between the narrative - in other words, would the character say this, or behave in this particular fashion? In writing fantasy, of course, some latitude is assumed. Still, quality writing pulls the reader into the story in such a fashion that even the unbelievable becomes "true". A good story has a beginning, a middle and an end, woven together in such a fashion that the seams don't stand out. I'm sorry to say that's not how I reacted to this book. In one of the stories by Gerl, "Love Beats Eternal", the narrative is supposedly told by the young son of the protagonist, but the wording just doesn't seem to ring true to that purportment. The child's father returns home to find his son's mother has disappeared into the forest. It's not until months later that someone suggests to him that he seek her where she was last seen. Again, not believable - what loving husband would wait that long to look? Three different writers contributed to this collection of stories interspersed here and there with poetry. The poems are in fact the bright spots within the volume, beautifully and evocatively written, but even within the verse, obvious grammatical errors muddy the waters and detract from readability. The one thing common to all of the writing here is a sense that the authors did not have clear ideas of where their stories were headed. Instead of complete and seamless circles, we have stories that seem to come to a skidding, screeching halt when the writers ran out of ideas. Hence, the feeling of incompleteness. That said, I should add that all three of these writers show promise and potential. A little attention to the niggling details will go a long way in enhancing the overall quality of their writing. A little more polish, and it can be world-class.
