5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant and Eclectic!
runs a crazy gamut from haunting carnival calliope in "Secret" to an almost middle eastern groove in "Lies" -- the girls' voices thread the songs with palpable notions. "Turn On Billie" hooked me first and stayed circling in my mind for weeks. (i kept returning to their myspace page just to listen to it day after day, previous to the CD's release!!)

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad
I like this album more than I thought I would from reading all the other reviews. It has a solid 7-9 songs out of 13, which is quite impressive of any album. I like their voices, and they can be funky.

5.0 out of 5 stars Boring?, July 2, 2008
This review is from: Thirteen Tales of Love & Revenge (Dig) (Audio CD)
This is easily the best album of 2007. These chics are hot, but I sure as heck wouldn't want to date them for fear of waking up with missing appendages! Rarely do I cheer so loud at the thought of a couple of gorgeous psychopaths tearing me apart. I absolutely love this ablum, it terrifies me, and at the end, I want to marry both of them, poligamy laws and fear for my life aside. I think that is exactly what they intended. This album is ANYTHING but boring. I cannot wait until their next batch of terrifying tales. I give it 6 stars, but unfortunately, it stops at 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a wonderful style, July 17, 2008

Heard "Secret" on some chickish CW show that was on in the background while I was studying, it was so amazing I had to write down the lyrics and look it up, finally bought it off Amazon, and I have to say I absolutely love this CD.

There is a style here that is so unique I just love it. My favourites are "Secret," "Sticks and Stones," and "Kill Kill Kill." I'll be studying and suddenly realize I'm swaying with the music, or chanting out a chorus and look up at the playlist, and it will be one of these three. "Secret" is this sort of waltzy haunting tune with a delightfully macabre quality. "Sticks and Stones" has a similar haunting quality to it, it's witchy little tune, I adore the lyrics, the vocals, the bass, the bell things. And I just can't help sing along to "Kill Kill Kill" it's a poppish happy song with some dark undertones, the lyrics are sort of obsessive and desperate, it's a different take on love, it sort of flirts with insanity.

Second favourites are "Boring," "Turn on Billie," "Lights on," and "Lies" These are all great songs too. "Boring" reminds me of a James Bond intro. "Turn on Billie" is a really great song, and I love it, but just not as much as the top 3, but it still gets me going.

Third favourites are "The Power of," and "Go to Heaven" Go to Heaven is actually really good, but not the kind of music I get into, but still good enough that I enjoy when it comes on.

Three Wishes really isn't my style of music, but the lyrics kind of sucked me in, so I like it too.

"Ruin" and "It Was You" don't really stand out in my mind, they're sort of "meh" not bad, but not special either. At least not to me, I wouldn't be able to pick them out of a lineup.

"Boy in a Rock and Roll Band" I am ambivalent about. I think I would like it more if I didn't understand the lyrics. I love the sugary style of the music, but the lyrics just irritate me.

All in all I gave it 5 stars, it might deserve 4.5 instead, but the style of music is very unique and beautiful, I absolutely love this. I tried to find similar music on [...], and noone else on the playlist could compare. (One of their older albums popped up on it too, and nothing I heard on it was as good as this album).

So yeah, this is worth the buy, definitely, I hope their next album is as wonderful as this one. (Are they touring? I'd love to see them live)

4.0 out of 5 stars Totally unconventional, October 14, 2008
This review is from: Thirteen Tales of Love & Revenge (Dig) (Audio CD)
This album became my latest purchase after it passed my three-song threshold: if I love three songs from an album, any album by any artist, then I buy it, full stop. 90% of the time I am rewarded, and I'm happy to report that this is one of those times. The Pierces are a very unique group with a sound that's impossible to pin down. The main complaint about their music seems to be that it crosses so many styles and genres, but I think that's the best thing about them. Listening to this album the first time, you never know what you're going to get. Every track is a new surprise (except, obviously, the three I'd already heard before). Every track has a slightly different style. The title of the album seems to be more tongue-in-cheek than anything else, because I didn't detect tales of love and/or revenge in every track, but it's a cool title so I'm not too bothered by that slight disconnect. It's so refreshing to hear an album where not every track sounds the same and few stand out. This record demands that you really listen to it; it grabs your attention anew each time the track changes. I'm impressed, and definitely plan to check out more releases from this band.

Oh, and in case anyone's interested the three tracks that made my decision for me were "Secret", "Three Wishes" and "Boy In A Rock And Roll Band". And I heard all three of them on "Gossip Girl," which has lately been the source of many of my more eclectic musical purchases. Now that I've heard the entire album, these three songs are still my favorites, but a few others -- especially "Turn On Billie" and "Sticks And Stones" -- are growing on me fast.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quirky and fun, May 25, 2008
This review is from: Thirteen Tales of Love & Revenge (Dig) (Audio CD)
Here's another group that I was introduced to through Gossip Girl. The sister's voices are beautiful, the music fun, and the lyrics quirky. These songs get stuck in my head all day- and that's a good thing with this cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars A piercing opus, September 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Not everything the Pierces have recorded is memorable, but this CD is a masterpiece. There's tremendous diversity; from the somnolent "Boring" to the campy "Turn on Billie," it's never boring, predictable or forumlaic. There are some absolute gems, such as the driving "Sticks and Stones," and, if you pretend that the young ladies aren't speaking English, it's easy to imagine "Lies" as a version of Sammi yoiking. It's a tragedy that this CD is no longer in production, but if you can pick up a copy, snap it up. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Your ears will thank you, June 22, 2010
This review is from: Thirteen Tales of Love & Revenge (Dig) (Audio CD)
I stumbled along this group because their song "Secret" is used as the theme to, heh, ABC Family's Pretty Little Liars. That clip I heard was so eclectic and unique, I immediately wanted to hear more. And man, am I glad I sought this group out.

Their sound is captivating. I'm not sure how to describe it, because this isn't your standard pop or rock fare, this is something with far more substance and talent. My favorite songs are, besides Secret, Three Wishes, Boy In a Rock and Roll Band, and Kill! Kill! Kill!. The Pierces do an amazing job of making these songs haunting, enchanting, and damn catchy! Do yourself a favor, and buy this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deliciously Clever!, December 30, 2008
This review is from: Thirteen Tales of Love & Revenge (Dig) (Audio CD)
I received a new ipod for Christmas and this is one of the CD's I chose to purchase for download. It's an amazing sound with an eclectic mix that makes it definitely worth listening to over and over again! Even my teens and younger guy love their sound. The girls blend and give you an entirely new sound that suits the ears of all different listening styles. I don't think anyone that purchased this album would regret it for one minute. You'll find yourself singing along!

The Pierces sisters sing beautifully in harmony. This is no manufactured pop crap, the lyrics are sly and witty, often tongue in cheek. These sisters have worked in the dance and musical industries for a long time and it shows on this album.

Try Boring and Turn on Billie. Seriously, you could listen to them all day, great vocals.

5.0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING, January 20, 2008
This review is from: Thirteen Tales of Love & Revenge (Dig) (Audio CD)
I ran across this cd when I was searching for a song (Secret) I liked in a film. I decided to buy the entire cd instead of just one song and boy am I happy with that decision. This is one of those rare cds that you can listen to over and over again. This cd is aptly named 13 Tales of Love and Revenge. I felt it was a rally cry for women everywhere but anybody can connect with at least some of the lyrics and all of the emotions behind them. Every song is a gem, with some shining brighter then others (the first three are flawless - Secret, Boring & Sticks and Stones). Upon listening to this cd, I felt it was my duty to tell others about the great experiece.

Why isn't this group, made of up two sisters, a huge hit by now? I'm stumped by this......
