This review is from: Thirteenth Air Force Story ... in World War II (Paperback)
This series of paperback reference books is somewhat dated for those who are looking for color markings for various USAAF numbered Air Forces during World War II, but at the time they were released (mid-1970s) they were state of the art black and white publications. Some volumes are better than others in showing the aircraft markings for various numbered air force units, while others, notably the Thirteenth Air Force Story, has very little in the way of unit markings because, frankly admitted by Mr. Rust, very little was known of their markings at the time (more recent publications do a much better job in this respect). What these books do well, more than anything, is to give a detailed history of the beginnings of each numbered air force, its major campaigns during the war and the ultimate fate of each after the war. These books are well suited for US Air Force historians, aviation buffs and aircraft modelers alike. Great reading, great pictures and great history of our US Army Air Forces during World War II.
