This review is from: Stargate Atlantis Season 1 (Amazon Instant Video)
Stargate Atlantis: Thirty Eight Minutes at its core is an episode with team unity in mind. After Sheppard is taken down by a Wraith tic-like creature both Sheppard's team on the puddle jumper and Dr. Weir and the scientists back on Atlantis struggle to find a solution to the puddle jumper being lodged in the gate. While Tayla and Ford struggle to help Sheppard, McKay attempts to bring the puddle jumpers drive pods in manually. Back at Atlantis, the scientists struggle to find a way to get the jumper through the gate and in what will live in TV history leads to an outstanding confrontation between Dr. Weir and Dr. Grodin.
Of course at the last minute Mckay saves the day but in the end the events that surrounded Sheppard's injury is what makes the two teams come together and insuring a better future for the whole expedition. Although Dr. Grodin and Dr. Weir do not fully resolve their issues in this episode the mere fact that Dr. Weir put the verbal slap down on Grodin only helps to solidify her as a strong leader and character. In later episodes the Grodin/Weir dispute erupts in amazing form and leads to some of the most compelling television in decades.
