THIS IS A "MUST" FOR ALL GROOMS-TO-BE!,
By Steve Nakamoto "The Friendly Voice of the... (Huntington Beach, California USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Thirty to Wife: The Tell-All Groom's Guide to Weddings - How to Get Hitched Without Losing Your Mind or Your Fiancee (Paperback)
Here's a surprisingly humorous, yet helpful book that's not just another "to-do" book.
It's actually a personal story that's happens to include all the necessary lists, tips and advice that every groom will (desperately) need. I say desperately because the information in this book is something you can learn a lot less painfully from someone else's experience. The greatest benefit for a man is learning that, in the end, it isn't about one thing that'll save the day...the "answer" is much simpler -- by helping out a little, the payback will be a lot. By finishing the book early enough in one's own wedding planning, men will get the benefit of Craig's missteps and prevent missing out doing the right thing for their big day (which isn't just one day, but the start of many days to come). I'm sure that a lot of enlightened brides-to-be can find tremendous value in this book, too. She'll get a glimpse inside the mind of a marrying man and find out what her mate is actually thinking about...without having to ask him. While groom-oriented, the book is very bride-friendly, so women might get a kick out of the book as well. And maybe be able to take a whole new approach at getting their mates to participate more. What I found particularly interesting was that the "backbone" of the book is a complete story. Not just anecdotes, leaving you wanting more. The reader gets to experience one groom's world from start to finish. And the story is really an everyman's story which makes it very relatable. This is one of the best designed books on the market today which makes it an easy read for almost any guy. Men aren't typically big buyers of relationship book so it's a great gift for women to give to their guys in their lives whether it's a fiancé, friend, son, brother, etc..

The Right Stuff!!!!!,

For starters let me just tell you that I watch sports on TV for exercise so the idea of reading any book that I don't have to isn't high on my priority list. That said THANK GOD I read this little Gem!!! The only reason I picked it up in the first place is because The Diamond Guy gave it two thumbs up!! In his article "Who is Craig Michaels?" he made it sound like I was missing the opportunity of a life time if I raced through engagementville. And boy was he right! Ever since I changed my attitude about my last days of bachelorhood Sally (my girl) and I have been closer than ever! I'm even having a good time. My favorite part is being introduced to everyone as the perfect husband-to-be!! Thanks for the book Craig!!!

The right book at the right time!,

My brother bought this for me as a gift and it couldn't have come at a better time. My fiance and I were stressing out during these last few weeks before the big event and this really helped - we both got a big laugh from it.
The author is dead-on with his hilarious accounts of what it's like for the groom (and believe me... all the grooms have experienced something like this) and after I read it (and was laughing out loud half the time) my fiance picked it up and read it to. I definitely recommend it to any who is about to take the plunge, or knows someone who is.

My mother in law loved it, and so did I,

I bought this book because of the Lichtenstein styled cover. My boss is a huge fan of such pop art and is getting married, so this fit the bill as a good engagement gift.
I brought it home and placed it on the coffee table planning to take it on my business trip to give to my boss. On the morning of my departure, I noticed the book was gone. After some questioning of the household, I learned that my 73 year old mother-in-law had taken it and read it cover to cover. She said it was very good and funny. So after retrieving it for her grasps, I read it on my plane ride. It's hard for a book to make one laugh out loud, but this one did, multiple times. So I kept my worn dog eared copy and purchased a new copy for my boss. I understand his mother-in-law is currently on page 213. Anyway this is a great, easy read, and it full of humorous insight. I think it will be the de facto engagement gift for that poor bachelor who is entering into marriage.

My Fiance bought me this and what do you know - Not too shabby!!,

So my fiance and I are at a bookstore (sorry amazon some things need to be done in person) and she does her usual rush to the wedding section. After drinking two cups of coffee and reading through magazines(Maxim, Fantasy football, FHM, Money) for a long time in the cafe, I go find her still at the wedding sections and reading what looked like a comic book from the cover. She gushes - I got one that is perfect for you.
Doubt kicks in - but hey $13 to get her of my back, what the hell (of course she bought several others so we left there about $75 lighter). Anyhow, I did my quick random flip to a page and read this to see if I have any interest. I read and it's funny, and I'm relating big time. A few more pages and I'm seeing lists of things I'm suppose to be doing for our wedding - and then here this guys story about how he got out of it. Genius. To my fiance's delight - I read the rest of the book that night. Good stuff, you can skim the to-do's and lists - though don't pass them by because a lot of good info - sort of get-out-of-jail card like stuff for surviving your engagement. The parts that were more a story about this guy, his finace, family and friends was good stuff - read more like a novel or a rant that kept you wanting to hear some more. This does exactly what it says - gives good advice, entertains, and scores you points with your fiance - and does it all in a not too serious give a guy a good laugh sort of manner. was a quick easy read and beats the hell out of these other wedding books/magazines my fiance has wanted me to go through these past three months.

Perfect handy guide and personal story,

I certainly wish I had this book when I got hitched. The layout is ideal for most guys like me to read, with plenty of quick checklists and feature boxes, but also has a compelling story line told very well in humorous first person. Very good to know many of my headaches and funny tales were shared by Craig and other grooms...
This would be a great gift for any guy about to tie the knot, or even for someone just thinking about it. It also would be perfect to get brides-to-be to slip under the pillow for their fiancees ;-)

Really funny and makes wedding less scary,
By Erik Hamilton (San Francisco) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Thirty to Wife: The Tell-All Groom's Guide to Weddings - How to Get Hitched Without Losing Your Mind or Your Fiancee (Paperback)
This book was very funny. It was well written and contained good information for me (a future groom). The big day is frankly a lot less terrifying. Craig didn't do things perfectly--in fact in many cases far from it--but that's what makes the book funny and disarming. Though it contains a great deal of good advice and checklists, it's not a checklist or a rigid how-to guide. It's sort of a day by day - calamity by calamity - story of an average guy, trying to to be himself and manage the expectations of his wife's dream wedding each day for thirty days leading up to the big event. It helped me shed a great deal of panic and it deserves my recommendation.

What were you thinking?,

This review is from: Thirty to Wife: The Tell-All Groom's Guide to Weddings - How to Get Hitched Without Losing Your Mind or Your Fiancee (Paperback)
Yes, that is probably what is going through your head right now. You proposed and she said "Yes", but now you have to go through laborious process of marriage planning. Stressed? Confused? Bored? This book not only entertains but informs. Craig opens up and tells his story in painful depth and detail like few guys can - his sacrifice is our gain. As a guy who is currently engaged, the book has served not only as therapy but as a guide. While being humorous, "Thirty to Wife" also informs by adding interesting and relevant statistics, provides useful registry ideas and websites, and includes a schedule of tasks for the months leading up to the wedding. It is not only easy and fun to read, but a great reference. It has come in handy more than a few times during wedding discussions. Not only have my fiancé and I avoided arguments by using this book, I have ended up looking like a champ.
Read and enjoy!

You don't have to be getting married, or have gotten married, to enjoy this heartfelt and hilarious "mea culpa". But you're sure going to recognize yourself if you are/have!
The author gives us a soul baring look at all of the things he did wrong leading up to his wedding. A public service for others thinking of taking the plunge. Hint, even if she pretends she wants to plan the big day her way... GET INVOLVED. Offer to help. But more than just sage advice, there are numerous helpful charts and statistics that break down the do's and don'ts of I do's. And perhaps most importantly, helpful hints you might not find anywhere else... like how to neutralize the smell of stripper perfume and the shine of body glitter. Knowlegde no bachelor party returnee should enter their home without. A great read and looking forward to the next life experience the author turns his humorously adroit attention to. |
