Discovering the not-so-underground world of acid jazz, March 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: This Is Acid Jazz, Vol. 6: The Golden Age Of Groove (Audio CD)
Jazz is, so I'm told, the music of the night. That doesn't mean much to me, since I can appreciate and learn from the music at any time that I want. And yet, I have always loved the light, layed-back approach that seems to be present in Jazz recordings. No matter how fast or intense the song is, there is still a feeling of lightness present, mainly because of each musician's sense of musical touch. So, on the one hand, I like Jazz for it's lightness and freeness, as it is very open to syncopation (not accenting on the beat).
On the other hand, I like Rock music because of its backbeat (accenting of beats 2 and 4, like a snare drum hit) and its straight-ahead nature. Lately, I have really come to appreciate synthesizers and drum machines. In fact, I use both in my own songwriting. Also, I have been searching for music from the 70's, that captures that funky Jazz feel, but keeps the backbeat of Rock music.
I had heard a few Acid Jazz songs over time and felt that I should maybe explore it a bit more. I bought "this is acid jazz vol.6" and was blown away. This was the type of music that I'd always looked for. It had the freeness and lightness of Jazz, with synthesizers, funky basslines and sometimes heavy electronic beats. But it was more than that. It was music that was very easy to listen to, groovy and of high quality. I would certainly recommend this CD to anyone would like a view into the world of Acid Jazz. This is the music of the future; this is the music of freedom; this is acid jazz.

This will blow you away!!!, October 11, 1999
This review is from: This Is Acid Jazz, Vol. 6: The Golden Age Of Groove (Audio CD)
I've always been looking for something that really satisfies my definition of acid jazz. Most of the ablums on the market does a rather poor job(if they've even done it at all) of combining jazz and and other high-energy music(such as hip-hop or latino music). This album, however, will truely blow any acid jazz lover away because the perfect fusion that is in this album is like nothing you've ever heard before. I will even dare say that it's better than the ground-breaking track 'Cantaloop' by US3...this album is absolutely amazing, you'll be sorry if you don't get your hands on it right away.

Do you ever crave to hear a modern sound that swings? Is trippy? Is funky? And mixes it up better than a blender on high? Jazz horn licks, guitar solos that drive the melody, but no noodling filler, thank you. You will never hear this on the radio, unless you load it yourself. Upbeat all the way, no matter the tempo, but never asks too much..oh, maybe just a teeny bit. For your own safety, please give this music to a friend before you play it night and day, everyday.
