The title track....talking about buttering babies....when I first heard it....a tear ran down my cheek. 3.0 out of 5 stars grows on you
To be honest, I can't even type what I first thought when I heard this record. A cleaned up version would be: "This is unpleasant. What in the world is this stuff?" I did not enjoy the way these guys screamed and how they sounded. Very strange. I am also not a big fan of punk. As much as I disliked it, I wanted to hear it again. With subsequent listens I...

5.0 out of 5 stars Artfull and inteligent album, December 12, 2002
By
This review is from: This Adultery Is Ripe (Audio CD)
While i would agree that this album is not as strong as their second release, i think that this is still on of the most artfull and stimulating releases in a long time. Another review of this album likend the lyrics to toilet humor. The lyrics in this album are not meant to be funny at all, rather thought provoking poetry that is meant to incite a response. The point of the vocals is not to be melodic, although it is sometimes; it is simply a superb example of what music should be in the years to come

4.0 out of 5 stars the first album from Seattle post-hardcore kings, June 11, 2002

i'll start with saying i actually meant to give this album 3 and a half stars. The Blood brothers truly stand out among the underground with venomous, snotty vocals and raspy screams from their two singers that seem to wrap themselves in each other. Guitar simply going everywhere, somewhat technical at times. The bass is very lively, as are the drums. However, this is the groups first release, and when compared to the immense growth of its sequel, March On, Electric Children, seems like a simple first effort. Lyrically, musically, and vocally, the group is light years tighter and more sonically capable on their second full-length. This is not to say that their first release doesn't offer anything. It does what a debut album should, bust out with guns blazing, stomp a mudhole, and let everyone stare in amazement. Tracks like "Rescue", "Doctor, DOctor", and "Mutiny On The Ark Of The Blood Brothers" swagger forth in every direction, overwhelming u almost to an equal with the great At The Drive-In. Speaking of which, famed producer Ross Robinson, who produced ATDI's last album (my personal fave album since Nirvana's "In Utero"), is currently working with the Blood Brothers on their 3rd album, which if it follows in the groups prior releases, will prove unstoppable, as did ATDI's ROC just a few years ago. Fans of the Locust, This Computer Kills, and the Hot Snakes, rejoice, the new kings are in town

4.0 out of 5 stars an awesome first effort, May 26, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: This Adultery Is Ripe (Audio CD)
The Blood Brothers are a band that will never fully be understood by the nay-sayers but that doesn't matter to fans of this genre. The energy and chaos of this album is addicting, an adrenaline rush underestimated by those that refuse to hear anything but cacaphony. The only thing more thrilling than a Blood Brother's album is a Blood Brothers show.

This is a stellar first effort and a fine introduction to them for a first time listener PROVIDED that that the listener already be experienced in the grindcore, scream rock genre. If not, you're bound to be confused.

Sonically, the later releases, especially Burn Piano Island Burn, are more polished but that doens't mean anyone should pass up this awesome specimen.

As addictive as any drug, the Blood Brothers hook you and reel you in.

4.0 out of 5 stars a dark twist in this bands saga, March 22, 2003
This review is from: This Adultery Is Ripe (Audio CD)
the content of this album is quite dark and gory for this band. With metaphorical, deep meaningful lyrics and complex, fast, aggressive music backing it; this album is an earful. I really enjoy this cd but i recomend MARCH ON ELECTRIC CHILDREN and BURN PIANO ISLAND, BURN more than this. In particular i like the songs face in the embryo, jennifer, doctor doctor and Jordan Billie pets the wild horses mane. check it out. hear it any way possible

I did not enjoy the way these guys screamed and how they sounded. Very strange. I am also not a big fan of punk. As much as I disliked it, I wanted to hear it again. With subsequent listens I have grown to like this. It is different. Different is good. I suggest that you borrow a copy or find a way to test it out before you buy it, especially considering it is only 21 minutes of music. And listen to it at least a few times before you reach a decision.

1.0 out of 5 stars Skip This One, January 25, 2009
This review is from: This Adultery Is Ripe (Audio CD)
Don't be fooled by the losers who claim this album to be amazing. This is the Blood Brothers at their absolute nadir. It's really quite sad that a lot of the people with their heads up their arse have the gall to knock their later albums, while putting up with the same same damn thing that this album carries. I don't mind the real fans who love all of their albums for what they are, but those douchebags who like only their first two albums for being strictly bland screamo/hardcore/train wreck s***stew. After all, when their strongest earlier tracks include a cover of Under Pressure, it shows what kind of band they are.

This music is one of three things: an utter train wreck, bland monotonous, weaksauce noise with a snap-rap like rhythm, or a mentally retarded At The Drive In (not Relationship of Command era Drive in either) on a bad day. It's utterly terrible, without identity, and about tens times worse than March On Electric Children, and that album isn't very good either.

You could technically find some good lyrics in the mix, but their message is lost in the unbearably boring music.

Not recommended unless your self proclaimed "hardcore". In which case, I hope you choke.

0/10

5.0 out of 5 stars My personal favorite Blood Brothers album, February 3, 2004
This review is from: This Adultery Is Ripe (Audio CD)
This was my first and continues to be my favorite blood brothers album ever purchased, and i own them all plus the unreleased stuff.
Thin noise, punk, hardcore, indie, gridcore, metal, emo, and sometimes even ska all whirrled into one.
what do you get? The best band to grace the alternative scene in the past 5 years.
Buy this album, you wont regret it.

oh oh oh, check out mutiny on the ark of the blood brothers, thats the song that got me hooked.
