4.0 out of 5 stars Trivium clone, November 28, 2007
This review is from: This Age of Silence (Audio CD)
Com'on folks...where's the obvious Trivium references here? If I didn't know any different, I'd swear I was listening to pre-"Crusade" Trivium here. Oh not there's anything wrong with that. It's just that the similarities are too obvious. A very young metalcore band (under the age of 20) that uses thrash elements and metalcore singing. And don't get me wrong, I like Trivium. I think they're a hellava talented band for being as young as they are.

Anyway, if you like Trivium's style prior to "The Crusade", you'll probaby like Anterior here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Continues to be one of my favorite albums, regardless of genre., April 27, 2010
This review is from: This Age of Silence (Audio CD)
I purchased this album not long after it's release, and since then there is no doubt in my mind that's seen the most play time of any of the now hundreds of albums I own. Gorod's Leading Vision is perhaps a close second.

I cannot praise this album enough; it's as if it was written with my exact likes and dislikes in mind:

1) Vocals are of a metalcore-ish variety, but do not confuse that to think you will be bombarded with the awkward clean-sung choruses at every turn that typically accompany this. If you despise the combination of thunderous thrash riffs with suddenly bland clean-sung choruses as much as I do, you'll be happy to hear this has none of that.

2) This album is absolutely driven by the guitars. In terms of composition, think Burning Bridges era Arch Enemy but with less anxious waiting to hear something great from the guitars between leads. Speedy and inspired without ever sacrificing a crucial level of melody, they provide a very satisfying feeling of dynamic with just the right level of progressive edge.

3) Drums are blast beat heavy and consist of more than the now all-too-common double bass marathons that I tend to find very boring.

If you share similar tastes you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not giving this a chance.
