4.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding...., July 10, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: This Ain't No Tribute Blues Cube (Audio CD)
I bought this box set at the end of a relationship that went sour, and it has sustained me through many hours of both feeling bad and feeling fabulous. I keep all five CDs on my changer, and friends are always asking "Who is that?" and commenting on how terrific the music is -- even people who don't consider themselves to be "blues fans". What's best about this collection is the new renditions of some really old and obscure songs. For example, I had never been fond of Bob Dylan as a perfomer, but I always thought of him as an extraordinary song writer. Isaac Hayes' rendition of "Lay Lady Lay" proves that, as do all the other covers for every CD in the set (with the possible exception of a lukewarm cover of Eric Clapton's "Tears In Heaven"). Especially unique are some of the treatments of the early Led Zepplin stuff. An absolute must for anyone wanting to call themselves a true fan of the blues!

5.0 out of 5 stars Blues Cube Good for the Soul...., December 12, 2008
This review is from: This Ain't No Tribute Blues Cube (Audio CD)
What a great gift (whether to yourself or to someone else whom you really care for!) Sure to be cherished by the blues aficionado- or those enthusiasts who wish to know better the rich roots of Rock and Roll. The Stones, Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, Eric Clapton, & Bob Dylan interpreted in ways leading to a much deeper appreciation of the music beyond the icons and their original recordings. Performances by The Blues Masters of today- whose vision both revitalizes and enriches the musical experience of these great artists. An amazing set of liner notes further enhances and provides depth to this collection. And, for those of you who have trouble digesting Dylan's voice, but admire his words- the Dylan CD is worth the price of admission alone. Likely could get a higher price if I sold each CD separately- but I could not bear to break up such a wonderful set. Truly- "Ain't No Tribute" is indeed that. A box set which exalts the genius of Rock and turns it upon its head- distilling it's essence by excavating it's roots. Just Brilliant! I just hope you come to appreciate and enjoy this 5 CD set as much as I!
