I've read the first "Pillow Book," which is about 200 pages an advance reader's copy and really enjoyed it. I'm eager to finish it!! However, I definitely DON'T think this book would be ok for 9-12 year olds. I'm 15 now, and at 12, it would have freaked me out a lot. At 9? Scarred for life. But obviously, don't let that put you off. It's very accurate in terms of what it's like to be a teenager, and while reading, I kept being surprised over and over that this was written by an adult male. because, aside from the overuse of the word "lordy", it's very realistic.

DON'T BUY THE KINDLE VERSION!,

This is an exquisitely beautiful and moving book, and the book itself gets an uniquivocal five stars from me. But the kindle edition is a mess, with passages spliced together and in the wrong place. Buy this book, but buy the paperback!

Beautiful,

Probably in my top 5 favorite books.
Beautiful. Moving. It still touches me to this day. It does drag in places but you don't notice much because of the beauty of his writing. Cordelia comes to life. I became her while I read this. A must read for every female over the age of 14/16 (depending on maturity levels). READ THIS BOOK.

Pretentious,
By Jon Uskglass (Adelaide, Australia) - See all my reviews

Reads like nothing more than a Judy Blume novel extended way beyond the point of reason. Teenage angst problem novel blown up to ludicrous and unnnessecary length, with a few 'literary' quotes from poems thrown in to make it seem like an expermimental venture. Avoid.
