Great introduction to a great singer,

There are a lot of standards on this CD which are rather tame compared with Anita O'Day's repertoire. But it it is a great intoduction to this great jazz singer who could sing fast, slow, scat and recreate any song a thousand ways. This one swings and relaxes at the same time.

This is one of the best jazz albums ever made, period. O'Day uses her voice like a soprano saxophone. Every interpretation is completely original. O'Day went through many phases in her career - big band soloist, club singer, improvising sensation of the Newport Jazz Festival - but this is her at the top.

In addition to being a top jazz album it is one of THE best vocal albums. If I were encouraging a young singer interested in jazz and musical taste, this is the place to start and the place to finish. And the musicians and arrangements, and the selection of tunes, are all first rate.
