More About the Author

Andrew Thies was born and raised in Bensenville, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. He's not a professional financial consultant or accountant. He is a professional artist and sings in two professional a cappella groups; The Vagabond singers and Canterbury Carollers as well as an ad hoc church ensemble Pure Inspiration. His knowledge of how to manage money comes from his parents and the fact that he's been a starving artist most of his life! This book will help you have a little bit more money at the end of the month. Use any of the tips in the book, and it the book will pay for itself!

Granted, it's only $10, but that's what much of this book covers- methods of saving a little here and a little more there, and it adds up. It may sound like common sense, but there were many tips in here that I've never thought of before. So one of the things this book taught me was awareness! How often do we easily spend $5 on something and by the end of the month can't believe the total on the credit card statement? But if you follow the advice in here, that $5 can be reduced to half or even nothing! Part of the awareness is in the ways out there to accomplish this; more awareness comes from having a clear idea of where you're at financially, what will work best, and sticking to it.

What I like about this book is that besides lots of cool tips on how to save a buck in everyday life, which is all in part one, it also covers making sensible plans, which is part two. It can get you out of debt or prevent it from happening to you. Andrew Thies writes clear and simple advice with a touch of humor, especially in his personal examples. I laughed out loud several times. What's also great is that he is the first to admit he's not some financial guru, but a non-expert just telling us what works for him. And it really does work. I'm going to modify my budget based on his suggested layout.

This book is a quick read, and I'm surprised at how much information was included in it! I do wish it was available in Kindle format on Amazon but Tate Publishing offers it in two ebook formats besides paperback (as sold here on Amazon). My favorite thing about how it's organized are the summaries at the end of each chapter. That makes it kind of like a manual or quick-guide which is enough of a reminder on many points, or can guide the reader back to a specific section for re-reading.

I've read a number of books about managing money and one thing is certain: there is always more to learn. This book is cheap, easy to read, and brought a unique perspective that I have not found in other financial books. A common theme throughout the book is how to live within your means, something I believe is crucial to a healthy financial life.

The casual, common sense approach from the author inspired me to make changes in my spending habits almost immediately. Within one week of reading the book, I had indeed saved the cost of the book (and then some) by following some of the simplest strategies in the book. It can be read cover-to-cover in a couple of hours, making it well worth the time (and financial) investment!

I love that the author writes from experience and not just research. It's nice to see proof in words - learning that he has been able to buy the things he wants (and travel), while saving money at the same time, is encouraging...makes me realize that it is possible! After reading this book, we have started to write down what we're spending each week and month (and what it is exactly that we're buying). It has been interesting and helpful to see where we could cut costs! I'd like to think we're really good with our money, but there's always room for improvement - I feel like this book helped us to see just that! We take cash out at the beginning of each week for groceries and dates...it helps us to buy only what we need and stay away from overspending! I also loved how there was a summary at the end of each chapter - makes it really easy to refer back to.

This Book Will Pay for Itself was a great, quick read and I will definitely recommend it to friends and family!
