In his introduction, photographer Richard Avedon discusses the role of photojournalism, the function of news reporting, and the different ways in which reporters intrepret their world. The images are grouped into thematic sections.

Stephen Mayes has compiled an amazing array of photographs by some of the finest photojournalists today. Accompanied by essays and comments by photographers such as Sebastiao Salgado and various press agencies, the book contains hundreds of compelling and provoking images taken within the past 40 years. Definitely a great book for any photography enthusiasts.
