5.0 out of 5 stars From a leading scholar, April 16, 2000
By A Customer
This is a dense, rigorous, and illuminating study of the political and intellectual changes from the Tang to the Song dynasties. The author is considered one of the leading Western intellectual historians writing on China today, and it is this monograph which has made his reputation.
