Even Nora Roberts Can Have A Bad Day...........,
By A Customer
This review is from: From This Day (Hardcover)
I love Nora Roberts, but this book asked for too much suspension of belief. The young and lovely B.J. Clark is the manager of a historic inn in New England. The new owner, Taylor Reynolds, comes in with plans for renovation. Taylor and B.J. spend the entire book arguing, since B.J. is resistant to any change whatsoever in her beloved inn. Taylor is surely the most benevolent boss ever, since he tolerates B.J.'s attitude and doesn't suggest she seek alternate employment. After spending 200 pages arguing bitterly, they decide to get married. Good luck, you two.....Excerpt from inside the book: "When handsome new owner Taylor Reynolds brought a pocketful of renovation plans for B.J.'s beloved inn and a blueprint for her seduction, the course of true love did not look smooth!"

Just the Book I Needed!,
This review is from: From This Day (Mass Market Paperback)
For many years I heard the name Nora Roberts touted on romance boards but never read any of her books. Then for some reason I began collecting them and one winter's weekend picked up Born in Fire and the rest is history. Now having read over 60 of Nora's romance and romantic suspense books, I find myself picking up one of them when I'm not quite sure what to read. I also know that they provide me with a good comfort read and something which will make me smile at the end. And as I tried to find a book that interested me after Thanksgiving weekend, I chose to read From This Day hoping it was the sure thing. And as always a Nora Roberts book came to my reading rescue. The age old story of girl and boy, in this case a man and woman meet when a young woman is the manager of an old inn which has just been acquired by the man. While they spar with one another neither of them can complain that they aren't physically attracted to one another. And then as time goes on the man wears the woman down to spend more time with him while the woman weaves a spell of love and as promised in a romance novel, there is a wonderful happily ever after ending. I did enjoy this early romance novel by Nora Roberts published as part of the Language of Love series during the 1980s. If you can find this title I suggest you read it and see how the queen of romances can enrapture you with her stories from the first page as she does to me time and again.

Chauvinist vs. Whiner - Ugh!,
By
This review is from: From This Day (Mass Market Paperback)
FROM THIS DAY is the story of BJ Clark and has a weak premise to begin with and continues a downhill course. BJ is a manager of an old-fashioned country inn and stands up to the new owner, Taylor Richards. When she does, it's not one with respect and intelligent, but comes across like a spoiled child making demands and giving ultimatums. What I don't understand is why BJ thinks she can make demands on a new owner to the point of telling him what he will and will not change about the way the business is run. It's his business, not hers, and she can be replaced! I understand loving your job, but she definitely crosses the lines of propriety and doesn't have a real sense of her own job responsibilities. This would be enough to throw the story off kilter, but Nora Roberts has other ideas. She creates a male character that is so power hungry and self centered that he makes demands as only a chauvinist can! A woman with no spine who whines about proposed changes to the inn and an overbearing new owner that thinks his money is enough for him to control and order everyone - including during their non-working hours. This relationship reminds me of Archie and Edith Bunker, but it's not written to be funny like the sitcom was! It may have been more acceptable in the era in which it was written (late 70's early 80's) but I doubt it. It probably rankled even then!

Cute, but annoying too,
By
This review is from: From This Day (Mass Market Paperback)
It's definately one of Nora Roberts' earlier works, and it shows. The whole man/woman meet, argue, fight like cats and dogs, and then fall in love routine is a bit unbelievable, and both characters have some seriously annoying traits(he's too bossy and she's rather whiny). I'd not buy it, but it's a good book to pick up at the library for some boredom reading.

B.J. was manager of an inn. She had worked there since she was old enough to work and she is now 24. She loves the inn because of it's "down to earth, comfortable" manner. It is a simple little place where one would go year after year til they grow old. She also lives there. Taylor is a big shot hotel buyer and has just bought the inn and wants to do all kinds of work to fix the place up to be a "grand" hotel. He instanly falls in love with B.J., but being that she is still young and knows nothing of love she doesn't want him. She hates him because she thinks that he is intruding on her life. They clash a lot in this book over the hotel, (as expected though, being that the place means so much to her.) I did find that B.J. was not that mature and I find it hard to believe that she actually is a manager of that inn. Taylor is demanding and is actually mean to B.J. Especially when Darla comes to the inn. Darla is Taylors decorator. She causes nothing but trouble for B.J. and Taylor. Anyway, this is a really SHORT book, so if you don't like it then really no harm done because it shouldn't of taken that long to read, but I LIKED this book a lot and would highly recommend it.

synopsis,

This review is from: From This Day (Language of Love, No 14) (Paperback)
Choosing a new jam for her homemade muffins was as progressive as B.J. Clark got. As manager of a small old-fashioned inn, she refused to let new owner Taylor Reynolds modernize the place! She'd just have to show this jet setter how true love and a tender touch made things cozier.

I didn't like either character in this book...Taylor was a manipulator and BJ changed like the wind. And who in the world proposes to a woman after 2 weeks? YECH! I can tell this was an early book of hers. Nora...you've come a long way, baby!

Annoying!,

The best part of this book was when I finished reading it. I could'nt wait to read something else anything else just as long as I never have to come across a book as annoying as this one was.I don't like books where the H/H constantly fight with one another. And I really don't like it when the author narrates the book from the female perspective only. I never knew what Taylor was thinking or feeling and then they want to get married. Did I missed something in between. I found the other characters just as annoying. Save your money!

She should have kicked him in the shins,

I couldn't get into either the hero or heroine. He treats the heroine like complete crap, and yet she somehow automatically falls in love with him. Really?
