4.0 out of 5 stars This is NOT ELECTRO, but ELECTROCLASH...
Just to clear up things, this compilation is not an ELECTRO compilation. This is an ELECTROCLASH compilation, and yes there is a difference... a HUGE difference. ELECTRO is that dirty analog sound with vocoders and the famed 808. Stuff by Soul Sonic Force, Kraftwerk, Advent. Simple, direct, and classic sounding. It's very distinct. ELECTROCLASH is a new movement...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but a bit cliche.
Okay, this cd was a must buy for me, because I'm an electroclash junkie. It's a decent collection, but it has some no-namers and some over played tunes. Felix da Housecat is awesome, but who wants to hear Madame Hollywood AGAIN? Also, it has Soft Cell, which was a good addition I think. Some good remixes of Information Society and Gary Numan, but overall a mediocre...

ELECTROCLASH is a new movement which combines the old skool electro sound with new wave, punk, synthpop, and other assorted beats. The sound is more danceable, more 4/4 beat driven, and alot more 'fun'. I love ELECTRO, but I find many tracks are not dancefloor friendly. They sound great because they use alot of high and low frequencies, but not much good on the dancefloor (with the exception of some tracks). Electroclash answers the call of making ELECTRO dance friendly, but they had to merge other genres to get it dancefloor friendly, and what they came up with was electroCLASH. Hope this clears things up. If your looking for ELECTRO then DO NOT BUY THIS! Instead take a look at the STREET JAMS ELECTRIC FUNK series for that classic ELECTRO sound or ELECTRO BREAKDANCE series. Both have good selections, and many classics.

Felix da Housecat is awesome, but who wants to hear Madame Hollywood AGAIN? Also, it has Soft Cell, which was a good addition I think. Some good remixes of Information Society and Gary Numan, but overall a mediocre compilation. The 3rd cd is a mix cd of tracks from the other 2 cds. But...it's on Clepoatra Records. Alot of their other compilations end up being "indusrial" or industrial-dance trash. This is their best set, but not the best in the genre. I only reccomend this to hardcore fans or beginners not wanting to waste their money.

5.0 out of 5 stars this is electrocash, May 8, 2003
This review is from: This Is Electroclash (Audio CD)
this is really one of the better electro compilations doing the rounds, although the hype seems to be over before it ever really started. of course there are songs you might already have heard on other compilations such as ladytron, but the majority is relatively unknown material. that's not to say it's crap...the cover version of sabrina's 'boys' is hilariously funny with it's distorted vocals, heavy guitar riffs and dance beats. class!
it's also cool that this compilation features some original and remixes of 80's classics to make it clear that the electro sound is not really new but was being made some 20 years ago already.
all in all, a very interesting compilation if you like electronic dance music or wish you could be in 1982 forever.
enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Electroclash Mix Out There So Far!!, August 18, 2005
This review is from: This Is Electroclash (Audio CD)
Very good compilation of Electroclash music. I first got into Electroclash via the Party Monster soundtrack and I kind of went from there. I pretty much like all of the songs in this set but there are a few that took a little while for me to like them like Asymetric and Warm Leatherette. My favorite song on the whole album is the re-mix of "Everybody Loves You". I also reccomend Electro Nouveau. If you have both this collection and Electro Nouveau you will be set with your craving for Electroclash.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not entirely 'electro', November 25, 2003

While all of the tracks on this comp could be called electronic, some of them do not, in my opinion, qualify as "electro" in the sense implied by the title. If you're looking strictly for the quintessence of electro - filthy analog lines, crisp 808 beats, and of course vocoders - you might want to consider another compilation. But if you prefer a hodgepodge of electro and synthpop, this isn't a bad choice.
