This Is...The Same Thing - but I still love it,

This album has 13 songs that basically all sound the same.
Said 13 monotonous songs sound pretty much like the songs on the debut (SLIGHT expansion on the sound). I should be completely bored. I should hate this. I don't. I love it. Maybe they have subliminal messages embedded behind that monotonous beat. After all, his voice does very much sound like it's trying to brainwash you. It's the only rationale explanation for me liking this so much. Ok, I'll admit, it's slightly less monotonous than the debut, but compared to other stuff out there, it might as well be one long 56 minute song. A 56 minute song I can't stop listening to.

She Wants Revenge released its debut album in January, 2006 and immediately picked up a lot of buzz, with comparisons to Joy Division/early New Order. I really liked the album, regardless of the comparisons, it was an album of mindless fun. Now comes the follow-up album.
"This Is Forever" (13 tracks, 56 min.) doesn't miss a beat and picks up exactly where the first album left off. The sound hasn't changed a bit. After a short instrumental opener, the band crashes in with "Written in Blood", one of the better songs on the album. Another highlight is "What I Want", reminding me of Depeche Mode-era "I Feel You", with a great underlying guitar riff. One of the few departures from the debut album is a 'ballad', "It's Just Begun", a piano driven track, quite nice. That said, the album is extremely wordy, and runs about 10-15 min. too long for its own good. There is no truly outstanding track like "Out of Control" from the first album. In all, I was a bit disappointed with "This Is Forever". It's not a bad album, but it's not the surprise that the debut album was. I've seen these guys in concert a number of times, and really enjoyed them live. I'll look forward to catching them live again, but if you are new to She Wants Revenge, I'd recommend their debut album over this one.

Solid follow up,

She Wants Revenge's eponymous debut was spectacular. Although the influences were obvious it was an original composition. A release that was the sleeper hit of 2006 and the nearly omitted "Tear You Apart" had a glorious run up the dance and singles charts. The CD had another five or six amazing songs any of which could have charted. Not to mention the B side "Black Liner Run" and hidden track "Killing Time" were catchy enough for "A" side status.
Following up any great work is always difficult. For a band with a unique sound it is even harder. A lot of the reason the first album was so good was that it was the first album. Topping a great debut is nearly impossible. Everyone expects improvement. She Wants Revenge's attempt at that follow up, This Is Forever, is as solid an effort as their debut release. It is better produced and the songs are more of what She Wants Revenge does best. If you enjoyed their self-titled debut release, you'll like this one as well. Stand out tracks include "Written In Blood", "True Romance", and "She Will Always Be A Broken Girl". I believe "This Is Forever" is a more consistent effort and their sound has refined a bit. The obvious influences are still there; Depeche Mode, The Cure, My Bloody Valentine, Joy Division and maybe added a touch of Ultravox/Gary Numan/Kraftwerk thrown in. But understand, this is work influenced by these pioneers, not copies of their works. All great music is influenced by great music. And for those of us who wish those bands were still in their prime and churning out the hits (or still alive in some cases), She Wants Revenge is a Godsend. I'm already looking forward to their third effort and I think that speaks volumes about this one.

I don't care what anyone says, I like it!,

It sounds like a lot of 80's bands, but that is the sound they were going for and they never denied their influences. They lyrics are witty and well-written. Some of the stuff sounds like it was made on a Casio, but it adds a certain kitch quality. Very catchy and addictive and I'm glad there are new bands making new wave type music, it's better than most of the crap coming out nowadays.

I never thought I would hear such a dark tale of love, loss, revenge, and redemption on a major record label. The haunting gothic tones and twisted and tortured vocals are a breath of fresh air in an industry filled with whining three-chorders. I don't know where She Wants Revenge came from, but I hope they're here to stay.

Although this is a very good CD it is not quite as good as their 1st release. She Wants Revenge fans won't be dissapointed though.

An outstanding sophomore effort by She Wants Revenge. Long described as channeling the spirit of Joy Division--a compliment of the highest order, make no mistake--the new record broadens the horizon by infusing elements of Bauhaus, particularly on "Checking Out." It seems "True Romance" and "Written in Blood" are tagged to be the singles, and both are fine songs, but as was the case with the first record, neither are the best tracks on the album. On "She Wants Revenge," "Red Flags and Long Night" and "Out of Control" (and in my opinion "Sister") were better songs than the singles (at least "These Things," maybe not "Tear You Apart"). On "This is Forever," "Walking Away" and the aforementioned "Checking Out" are IMO the strongest tracks. "Replacement" and "Pretend the World has Ended" are also outstanding. Weaker points "She Will Always be a Broken Girl," which just isn't my thing. Also, two of the tracks are relatively brief instrumentals. It is an outstanding album to track through 1-13 (or 14, depending on where you buy it) though, and as with any music of this type (including Joy Division) you owe it to yourself to listen to it three or four times before forming your opinion, because the songs' richness often isn't yet apparent when you're listening for the first time and trying to understand lyrics. I'm on about 20 plays in two weeks...

I love their funky beats and this album was very well put together. When I'm running on the treadmill, their music gets me pumped. And yes, if you enjoyed their self titled album, then this is great as well. I must say, I still love their previous album. Head bopping fun and they're even better performed live. Go check when they're coming to your city... NOW!

I work in the Operating Room at my local hospital and we all love to listen to music that gets us in the rhythm for the operation. This album is totally going to be in our top 5 for awhile. It has the distinctive beats that any fan of She Wants Revenge has come to love. But at the same time everything is completely different than any song from there self-titled debut album. If you loved there first album, you will love this album. Highly Recommended!

She Wants Revenge is a band that's been out for a few years, and although I didn't pick up their self-titled album, I became interested in them after I heard them on Timbaland's latest album (even though I didn't like that particular song). So I picked up the duo's sophomore album, This is Forever.
This album would be great -- if it were marketed as a blues album, that is. And since it isn't, there lies the problem: the subject matter is too dreary. Every song is either about their heartbreak or other people's heartbreak (see "Rachael" or "She Will Always Be a Broken Girl"). The only songs that really deviate from this formula are "It's Just Begun" and "Pretend the World Has Ended". Another problem is that as much as I like new wave music, there is absolutely no variation in the production: the album sounds like one long single. While the instrumentals "First, Love" and "All Those Moments" stand out, it still won't make you ignore the lack of variety. Fans of Depeche Mode and the Bravery (well, their first album, anyway) should still be able to enjoy this, but everyone else will probably agree that This is Forever makes forever seem like a sluggishly long time.
