If you are looking for basic cake, cookie and cupcake recipes, then this is not the book you want to buy. This is the ultimate dream book for fabulous baked goods. Don't let that scare you off though. Strauss walks you through all the basics first, gives you ideas for planning to make really special baked goods and then has projects with all the steps.

I'm just blown away by the beautiful cakes and projects in this book. But, I'm not intimidated. It takes an investment in some equipment and also a time investment, but these projects are possible with the great steps and tips.

Even if you don't want to drift into the fancier frosting like fondant, you can look at the terrific projects and do home projects inspired. For example, the author has a neat idea with cupcakes made like a rack of pool balls. They are super with the fancy frostings, but they could be made at home with regular old sugar cream and some numbers piped.

The recipes at the front of the book include the basics, so you can get general great recipes for Red Velvet Cake and Sugar Cookies. Then, you can pump it up with the harder projects that really look classy. The fancy recipes include the basics but with more skill level required.

The cakes in this book will make you do a double take. It is amazing what a true artist can do with cake. If you have the time and energy, you can do it too. If not, you can sure get some cool ideas and just do the home thing but with some creative ideas in your head.
