Editorial Reviews

Murs is an established rap artist from Los Angeles, CA. He is the founder & host of the Paid Dues Festival, one of the largest independent hip-hop showcases in the US. This year the festival attracted over 15,000 attendees (we have access to these fans contact info). Over the past 5 years Murs has released successful projects: 'Love & Rockets: Volume 1' (2011) - 9,000 units; Murs & 9th Wonder 'Fornever' (2010) - 20,000 units; 'Murs for President' (2008) - 55,000 units. Murs is constantly on the road and is often hired for specialty events, most recently as a performer at the X-Games. Fashawn is a young talent (23 years of age) from Fresno, CA. In late 2009 he debuted with his 'Boy Meets World' album, which is over 10,000 units scanned. Fashawn has toured recently with Talib Kweli, Andre Nickatina & Wiz Khalifa, who he also has an upcoming track with. Murs & Fashawn 'This Generation' is entirely produced by Beatnick & K-Salaam. The production duo have produced tracks for K'NAAN, Mos Def, Lil Wayne, Talib Kweli, Bun B and Trey Songz. They also work closely with Lauryn Hill.

Been waiting on this album for a while now and it was definitely worth it. It exceeded my expectations after hearing Slash Gordon a while ago. Living Legends fans: you wont be disappointed

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing production October 4, 2012
Format:Audio CD
Producer team Beatnick & K Salaam work wonders on :This Generation." This album is hands down one of the best mixed HipHop albums of the year. Just listen to the bass lines. The editing is a work of art. Fashawn and Murs sound like they were meant to be together on the track. Both MCs bring the lyrical ruckus for the duration of the album, while managing to remain catchy on every chorus. This Generation is truly a great album. It really stands out among all the other great albums that have come out this year. Cop This.

3.0 out of 5 stars 6/10 - It's ok November 20, 2012
Format:Audio CD
When I first heard the announcement for this album I wasn't really sure what to expect. I'm a longtime fan of the Living Legends crew, but I've never really enjoyed Fashawn. So I decided not to expect much of anything. I would wait for the album to drop and I would go from there. Sadly, the end result is pretty average.

Lyrically this album is ok. The major issue is that it isn't consistent with itself. There are songs where Murs has a dope verse and Fashawn has an ok verse, then there are others where Fashawn has a dope verse and Murs comes through with an average verse. Which is weird. Usually Murs is pretty consistent, but on here he's just... not himself.

In terms of subject matter this album truly excels. There's a lot of story telling which makes these songs worth it even though they can suffer lyrically. The only song I truly hated subject matter wise was the hidden track at the end of "The Other Side." That is the lowest of the low on this album. Hearing a song like that from Murs just made me cringe.

The production on here is ok. It could have been better but none of the beats on here are extremely terrible. I'm glad they kept the guests short with this album. When you have two MC's on one album there's no need for an overabundance of guest appearances. Krondon makes an appearance and Adrian makes two appearances. No complaints in this department.

Standout Songs: "Slash Gordon," "Heartbreaks and Handcuffs," & "This Generation (Feat. Adrian)"

Overall Score: 6/10 - As I said I didn't have any extreme expectations prior to listening to this so I can't really say I was disappointed. However, the end result is a little underwhelming. I just think Murs might be pushing himself too hard right now.
