5.0 out of 5 stars Great bunch of stuff
I just got this album yesterday and only have made through about the first disk and some of the second disk but from what I have heard, this is a great compilation. So far my favirotes on this cd is Inkubus Sukkubus, I really love the girls voice on this song. I also liked Razed in Blacks song, Switchblade Symphony and the Mission U.k. song. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not goth
I got this set a few days ago, and I must say, This music is definatly not gothic. It is closer to a techno. It has a few "goth type" songs, but the majority is not gothic music. It is very instrumental, and vocalistic. Many people who say that this is goth, are newage goths, just comeing out of the punk era. i am the traditional goth, and I stick with...

So far my favirotes on this cd is Inkubus Sukkubus, I really love the girls voice on this song. I also liked Razed in Blacks song, Switchblade Symphony and the Mission U.k. song. With this cd you get a lot of songs, 36, for a really great price! So pick this one if you are a goth fan or if you are new and what to check out what the music is like!

5.0 out of 5 stars What are you reviewing?!?, October 19, 2005
This review is from: This Is Goth (Audio CD)
I have no idea what techno CD these people are reviewing, but it is definately not this one. Almost every song on this compilation is standard fare on most other compilations. If you listen to Nazarene, Walking on your Hands, Pagan Love Song, Ignore the Machine, Snake Dance, Thalia, Witches, or Spiritual Cramp and you think they are techno, then you've got something wrong with your head. There are several songs with a 'techno' flavour, absolutely, but they are still quite goth. What makes the genre so great is that it's not brutally standardized, like many others are. There is great diversity in goth music, and this covers most of that diversity, though not quite all, unfortunately.

4.0 out of 5 stars This IS Goth!, January 27, 2005

Cradle of Filth!!! Cradle is about as Goth as my grandmother. This cd IS goth in a nice layed out way, too. It has all the requirements I would have for a goth CD, except maybe they could've sneaked in a few more of the older bands like Bauhaus, SoM, or Banshee.

5.0 out of 5 stars not sure if this is goth..., March 18, 2003

...But it's still great! Shlurrrrp... Alien sex fiend's remix of 'ignore the machine is just priceless! dunno if everybody would agree since this is one of the weirdest sounding tracks i've ever heard. anyway the first cd is the best of the three and deserves the price by its own right. the two other cd's are mostly filler with a few worthy tracks here and there.
i wish the package could contain some info about the lesser known bands. this is a compilation one gets to fill some given 'gaps' and it has some really good moments on it.
this album is better labeled 'industrial music' and not 'goth', even if it has Christian Death on it.... if you want goth, try Xmal deutchland, diamanda galas, the merry thoughts or try the "unquiet grave" compilations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Mix, November 18, 2001

This CD has something from almost every little pocket of the gothic genre.
Everyone I've played it for loves it. (my friend stole it for a week, 2 days after it arrived!)
I listen to it all the time.
I even take it to my office and plunk it into my computer, so I can listen to it at work!
This is one of the best compilations I own.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not What Metal Heads Think Is Goth..., May 14, 2003

Not what metal heads think is goth (cradle of filth, type o negative, ministry, etc.) if you think those bands are goth your not looking at the right stuff. this here is more of an addition for anyone who owns the uber awsome 'goth box' set. classic goth bands with some of the newer stuff mixed in. kind of bridges the gap between the old goth (christian death, the lorries, corpus delicti) with the new brand of goth (razed in black, alien sex fiend) and everything inbetween (mission uk, inkubus sukkubus, children on stun, march violets). ...

4.0 out of 5 stars Diverse..., September 9, 2003

This is a really good look at Gothic music, but I dont know if Id recommend this to a beginner... If you already like the music, then this would be good to get, as it will open you up to a lot of goth bands. A lot of the bands on here are the more underground bands...Theres no sisters of mercy or Bauhaus...Thats why beginners might not like this...But it is pretty good...Like i said, if you like the music..The song selection isnt too bad but some of it is pretty aweful...I mean the bands listed on this have a lot of much better songs...but eh, its worth it, its an important album to bye for anyone looking to listen to gothic music. This was the second compilation I ever bought...at first i didnt like it but after A while i got a taste for it...

Well, it looks like Cleopatra didn't do it with this one. 3 CDs for a very good price with mostly CRAP musci. You will find out of the millions of songs on this CD, about 3 stunning ones (Witches, Alice and Fire Dance), a few more good ones and the rest will bore you. They did a much better job with 'Gothic Divas'.

4.0 out of 5 stars theres a difference between goth and gothicand darkwave, etc, April 11, 2003
This review is from: This Is Goth (Audio CD)
this is goth, not gothic. goth is derived from punk, gothic is an evolution of the new romantics.
goth is noisy and harsh, gothic is ethereal and slow.

its like comparing jimi hendrix to jenny g or marilyn manson to blacktapeforabluegirl. theyre different genres.
