4.0 out of 5 stars A decent release after "Silent Night Fever"
Dimension Zero has proved to be an excellent Death/Thrash Metal band. Having two members of In Flames, and one former member of Marduk, you would expect this. This CD is one of the best new Swedish bands. Any fan of Death Metal should own this. For fans of more melodic Death Metal, you may also enjoy this. I normally listen to lighter bands than this, but Dimension Zero's...

don't get me wrong, i love this band, DZ blew me away with Silent Night Fever, they sounded a lot like soilwork but much heavier and overall an awesome band. i was really excited to finally find This is Hell, and i bought it immediately. i must say that i'm not all blown away by it. i dont know how to touch my finger on it, but there are a few reasons. the melodies, while...

This CD is one of the best new Swedish bands. Any fan of Death Metal should own this. For fans of more melodic Death Metal, you may also enjoy this. I normally listen to lighter bands than this, but Dimension Zero's music is addictive and ferocious. This is a great band. I am convinced after two excellent CDs. Get them both. I give this CD four stars for not being quite as good as their debut "Silent Night Fever." Nevertheless, it is excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Dimension Zero....YEAH!, January 31, 2004
This review is from: This Is Hell (Audio CD)
I had really high expectations when I got this album, because I really loved "Silent Night Fever". Let me just say that "This Is Hell" doesn't dissappoint! It picks right up where "Silent Night Fever" left off. I would even venture to say that this is better. There is just MORE of everything that made "SNF" great....MORE searing vocals, MORE skin-ripping guitars riffs, MORE "reverberations-from-the-deepest-pits-of-hell" drumming! Bottom line: no self-respecting Swedish Death Metal fan should be without this CD!

i really want to like this cd, DZ have become one of my favorites, but i just can't get into it, i suggest you get Silent Night Fever first if you're new to DZ. i think its a matter of opinion, but i think that SNF is lightyears beyond TIH.

5.0 out of 5 stars great swedish metal album!, November 10, 2008
This review is from: This Is Hell (Audio CD)
I recently got both the US and japanese version of this release from Dimension Zero. This is a great second album. They really have grown as a band and if you like this album or Silent Night Fever you should check out the newest album "He Who Shall Not Bleed. This Is Hell has a lot of catchy songs and the album flows well, for me anyways. If you like melodic metal than you should really check out this album and the others as well. I think every song is great and there really isn't any filler. The japanese version has one bonus track entitled "Hellmet" which is short yet sweet, clocking in at about 2:20. Some of my favorite songs on this album are Immaculate, Blood on the Streets, and like I said basically every other track. Do yourself a favor and get this album. It features Jesper from In Flames and Daniel Antonsson(ex-soilwork) who is also a member of Dark Tranquillity now playing bass.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent death metal!, July 18, 2006
This review is from: This Is Hell (Audio CD)
"This is Hell" represents fast death metal with hints of thrash and melodic-black metal.

The production is very good and guitar riffs are crushing and catchy in the same time. The drumming is mostly fast and a bit monotonous , but it fits the brutal riffs and screams they incorporate into the music.

The only weak place is not enough guitar solos. In my opinion solos would bring more charm to their music. However track "Amugdala",for example, has brutal catchy riffs and they also incorporate cute guitar solo in the middle, which sounds perfect!

But fans of swedish death metal bands, as well as American death metal bands should know about Dimension Zero !

So, headbangers should know Dimension Zero!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Dimension Zero, Round 2..., June 6, 2004

Let's first take this as fact: Dimension Zero is a good band with 2 very good CDs. Now let's get to the question of which album is better, Silent Night Fever, or This Is Hell. My answer to that question is probably a little disappointing: neither is appreciably better. Here's why:

SNF has for pros... excellent riffs that are extremely memorable, a very brutal feel, great drumming and guitarwork, excellent vocals, a great ability to switch moods back and forth, one of the best songs I've ever heard: End.

for cons... several poor transitions that take away from the momentum of the song, rather than adding to it, an annoying tendency to throw riffs in the bridge that are awesome, but not develop them worth squat.

TIH has for pros... excellent riffs with a different style, very powerful, often involving three repetitions of the same pattern and then an epic feeling fourth part that are in themselves a transition, some great drumming and guitarwork again, insane vocals, some great unorthodox structures where the music does the talking rather than the singer, several songs with different moods fighting for dominance, no weak transitions, solid songs with no cracks in them.

for cons... some of the riffs do sound weaker, a little less inspired, or just less memorable, a less dark feel, again some ideas left insufficiently developed.

As you can see, they both have mostly pros, which consistently include excellent usage of all instruments, and awesome riffage. But, clearly, the feel and structures of songs are where they need to come up with something new and better for their 3rd album. If they could blend the vicious feel and memorable nature of SNF with the solid craft and epic feel of TIH, they would create a work of art truly deserving of 5 stars. For now, I think the two existing albums deserve 4, or maybe 4.5. Buy both, and see for yourself. Neither will disappoint.

I was listening to Xtreme Metal Radio on live365.com and heard a couple tracks from this band for the first time. I must admit I was hooked. I went out the next day and picked up this album. I truly dig this band more so than In Flames.
