My children's favorite book...,

This review is from: Is This the House of Mistress Mouse? (Board book)
and now I'm buying it for their children. I still have the story memorized, from reading it aloud - oh, 1,000 times, easily.
"They heard a tiny peep -peep - peep, coming from the room. What could it be? (turn the page to hushed anticipation) It was their BABY!" The nice thick pages are easy to turn for little fingers.

I loved this book as a child, and I wanted to share it with my children too. I have a feeling the fur at the back of the book is going to be worn completely off from being loved to death by the time my kids grow out of this book. :)

37 years later, and I'm reading it to my children,
This review is from: Is This the House of Mistress Mouse? (Board book)
I loved this book as a child...37 years ago (at 3yr old) I remember my father and mother reading it to me at bed time. Well I just read that same 37+ yr old book to my 3 yr old son. He asked me to read it again ... twice!
Even though the book is old, it is in really good condition! They really made this one well. The fur is a little haggard, but you would be too after being read 100 times over 37 years. I want to preserve my copy, most likely a first edition, so I'm going to purchase a second copy. I still love the chicken scratching directions!

Our children enjoyed this book and now it has become a favorite story for us to read to our younger grandchildren. They love putting their finger in the hole and touching the soft fur. I was excited to find this book still available to give as a Christmas stocking stuffer.

Sweet and Old-Fashioned, But Still Fun for Toddlers,

I'm pretty certain I remember this book from my own childhood. My toddler boys are not yet interested in some of the other Scarry books that we have at home; I think they're illustrations are a bit too busy. This book, however, is simpler (more along the lines of 'I Am a Bunny') and they really love the interactive bit. Plus, they are completely entranced by the "surprise" on the last page. It's a keeper.

Sweet Kid's Story,

I grew up with Richard Scarry and continue to love his lighthearted innocent style. This particular story is a lot of fun because of all the adventure and surprise in Mr. Mouse's quest to find his lady. Scarry's aproach to romance and marriage is almost amusing today, even children know that it doesn't work out quite like that, but it is a lot of fun to pretend.Enjoy! |
