Ivan Doig grew up in the rugged Montana wilderness with his father, Charlie, and his grandmother, Bessie Ringer. He lived among sheepherders and the characters in small-town saloons and valley ranches as he tagged along with his restless father.
Doig puts us in touch with the land and its influence on us, also with ties to our family and those who shaped our values in the search for intimacy, independence and love.
