Just listened to Boy's new album, and found my blood pressure dropping and my life anxiety level easing, while a smile slowly crept over my face. His deeper voice (seasoned with life experience and age) is a pleasure to listen to (though I've always loved his voice), and the new songs are obviously a result of his work on himself and his current path in life. It's only a first reaction so far, but I think I'm going to be playing this one repeatedly--especially when I'm in need of some relaxation and peace in my life. Congratulations, Boy, welcome back--though I know you never really went away.

Finally and after many Years - just like his female Alter Ego Grace Jones - Boy George released a new Album with new Material.
After several Dance Music Projects Releases with his DJ Partner Marc Vedo, Cover Versions of Lana del Reys "Video Games" and others and a Compilation of older Dance Material.
Instead of his Glam Rock and awesome Ballads Album "Cheapness & Beauty" this time his Music is mainly based on Reggae (Play Me, Feel the Vibration, My Star, Love and Danger, Live Your Life).
The "Boy" still knows very very well to create big Pop Melodies and his lyrics are self reflective and just wonderful.
"King of Everything" is a great Pop Song supported by a strong Melody and soulful Backgroundvocals.
"This is what I do" offers a wonderful rendition of Yoko Onos "Death of Samantha" sung with now a little darker and sometimes husky Vocals. "It s easy" is a great Midtempo Popsong drenched with some Country Sounds about the End of Love.
The New solo Album after a very long/too long time is a strong Pop Album with no Fillers and shows the wonderful Abilities of Singer and Songwriter Boy George. Hope the next Album will not take this long again.

And btw: Boy George and Grace Jones really should do a Song together.

I do not particularly like Culture Club. This album is quite fantastic. I purchase hundreds of albums every year. I have been listening and collecting music since 1970 when I was 15. There are some musicians that reach into the heavens and pull out something that is a masterpiece and a classic that resonates in one's soul. This album does that. I listen to it on my way to work every day. I am an art teacher and an artist. I also listen to this on my way home. I hear it in my head and I think "Wow!" There is music that every once in a while touches the heavens and "This Is What I Do" does this. Very soulful and sends chills down my spine. Great music, I hope for lots of people to hear this. I know I will talk about how great this album is.

Boy George, that's a name that has been around the music business for years, since the 80's (Culture Club) the mega selling British group full of soulful singles and tabloid headlines. I was never a big fan but how could you not be affected by this voice, soulful as any white man, I did listen to the songs cause his voice was just so outstanding. He was a mess at times through the years but again his music was always around, as a solo artist, long after the demise of Culture Club. He has been very busy through the years even though he fell into drugs and lost his way, he always remained a fun character, into the dance music scene, a DJ right up there with the best and I always listened to what he was up to. "This is what I do" is a really excellent piece of music, love the reggae vibe and the 70's sensibility throughout. The voice is so much more deeper and mature and so much more interesting than that perfect voice way back when. Just give the first single "King of Everything" a listen, its a great song but just one of the many eclectic songs on "This is what I do", he even does a Yoko Ono number "Death of Samantha" that is unusal and interesting. Boy george has undergone a transformation for sure! The lyrics, production and musicianship, all for the most part are layed back and easy on the ears. This has to be one of the biggest suprises in the music world this year, listening to the combacks of Alison Moyet and David Bowie, and even Corey Hart back at it.... the 80's are very well represented in artists that transcend those times and are true artists continuing to make music for all their fans as they get into more mature years. This is well worth checking out, you need to listen to this all several times but it will grow on you, you'll be surprised!

This is simply one of the Boy's most brilliant albums in years; from twinges of country, pop, and rock to full out reggae and pure soul. You'll be humming along during the first listen, immediately hooked on the choruses, and unable to shake the deeper lyrics. For all his latest dance and club tracks, they've been released as singles only, and can be downloaded separately. Don't miss "Coming Home", "Happy", and "These Gods Will Fall".
