I've never been moved by love or hatred to share my opinion here before, but this album must be talked about. Imagine that Tool were more concise, focused songwriters with a penetrating melodic sensibility - this is the music they would make. If Karnivool, who I also adore, are Australia's expansive, cerebral answer to droning, rhythmically complex 90's American rock, then Dead Letter Circus are the pop craftsmen. Get on YouTube and watch 'Big' and then listen to 'Here We Divide.' If some part of you realizes that this is the music you've been missing, then you should buy this album. If you believe that rock is dead and buried, you're wrong - and you owe it to yourself to listen to Dead Letter Circus.

Dead Letter Circus have finally released their first actual album and it's a winner. These guys have an epic feel to their music and can be compared with bands such as Tool and Karnivool. In fact, the album was produced by the same guy who did Karnivool's second album - which was a 5 star classic. The songs are epic in scope, the production is huge, the vocals are melodic, and the music is complex but accessible. The trademark of this band revolves around guitars soaked in heavy delay and an underlying groove built around a very solid rythm section - intense bass playing is a highlight. This Is The Warning is a very good album from start to end and is highly recommended to fans of epic progressive rock. Dead Letter Circus should be proud of this album and the massive jump they have made from their EP released a few years ago.

Buy this album! It is one of only a few important albums shifting to what I see as the next step in our evolution toward consciousness and self-awareness. As the folk/rock movement in the 60's (yep, I'm that old!) brought political and social issues into common cognizance, this wonderful piece gives a compelling voice to our desire for change starting with our own minds. In this, we are invited to take a journey from mundane daily living to altering and unlimiting our experience.

The music is potent, delivered with confidence, and Luke Williams' drumming is truly exceptional. Kim Benzie's vocals are beautiful, by turns searingly passionate and gently emotive, although the production periodically covers them with the electronic mid-range. But it's the lyrics that set this album apart from almost anything else I have heard, except for Linkin Park (and I'm a huge fan of Tool, Fair to Midland, 10 Years, A Perfect Circle, Cog, Fever Ray; and from way back, Genesis, Rush, Yes). As with Linkin Park, every song expresses the burning need to expand, to move beyond pain and anger, to change our own minds and hearts, to embrace the connectedness of humanity (Stop holding it down/stop thinking it over/decide and you'll live your life awake==Reaction) to explore the life outside of our own daily experience (I know that I can change/feels different to me now/we're close enough now go/lets bring an end to this==The Drum), to feel our own power to alter the world into something we can be proud of (We've all figured out/same people brought them down/they are controlling you/these people lead us/I saw them change the truth/they didn't want us to/there right before our eyes/broke and remade it/don't take the easy line/we're running out of time/this is the warning== This Is The Warning).

Thus the 5 star review. These guys are billed as a "progressing rock" style band but they are definitely not progressive in the traditional sense. If your idea of progressive is Rush, Yes, Dream Theater, etc., then these guys might not be what you're looking for. That being said, the CD is fantastic!! High energy, excellent vocals and great lyrics. I've been a drummer for 30+ years and I have a great time jamming to this CD. There are definitely some interesting and challenging rhythms.

I love the musicians sound and tone as well as the voices. The song that really caught me was "Next in Line." It was a very simplistic song that hit deep. If you are looking for a great relaxing CD, this is it.

I don't know how this band isn't bigger than what they are. This album is amazing! I highly recommend it and you won't be disappointed. It's a very heavy sound without being heavy. It's almost a similar feel when listening to Tool or APC.
