Read this...it'll make you feel better,
By Nanda "Bella Cuoca" (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eat This It'll Make You Feel Better (Paperback)
My mom bought this book when it first came out in the late 80s. This was probably the first cookbook I ever looked at. I loved the stories and started trying out the recipes when I was about 11 or 12. Throughout the years the book has lost a few pages, gained quite a few smudges, and has literally broken in half, but it's still my favorite cookbook. In fact, I like to think it is this book that ultimately inspired me to go to Italy to attend culinary school. I'm now moving into my very first apartment and am ordering another copy of it (don't want to take my mom's) so that I can have it with me...even though I've pretty much memorized it. I know I'll be using this book my whole life.

A terrific cookbook with mouthwatering home cooking recipes. This endearing cookbook is written with love, tears and more love and the recipes included read (and taste) like old world home cooking. Mama's Spinach Rolls, Veal Piccata and plenty of sauces are among the very easy recipes that seasoned and new cooks will enjoy. Dom DeLuise shares recipes from friends, families and his own kitchen and like all good cooks, has a story for each and every one. A joy to read.

the easiest and by far the best italian cookbook ever,

I lived with a very Italian aunt who made the best food, and for so many years I assumed that these recipes- lental soup, pasta fagioule, eggs with tomato sauce, pasta primavera etc were from hand me down recipes. To my surprise, after inquiring about how to make "her tuna fingers," she handed me this book. It blew me away how simple and easy the recipes were. Really good Italian food! Its a shame that I bought so many Italian cookbooks trying to perfect these dishes when they were all right here. Dom Deluise adds personal stories which are a little sappy but still entertaining as well. It gives you something to read while your cooking dinner. Enjoy

My favorite cookbook, by far..,
This review is from: Eat This .. It'll Make You Feel Better (Paperback)
You know how you sometimes buy a cookbook, and it sits on your shelf for months without you trying a recipe, even though you love to cook? With this cookbook, you will be trying Dom's eggplant rolls the minute the book reaches your kitchen. I purchased this book several months ago, and have tried many of the recipes--all of them received rave reviews from my family! (and I'm a teenager, too, which means I've only been preparing meals all by myself, as opposed to just helping, for a few years now). Tonight, for example, I made Dom's mussels with the Risotto Primavera on the side. I made on substition though--instead of carrots and celery, I used Mushrooms (I'm a mushroom addict). We couldn't get enough of it! Absolustely delicious. Being Italian and living in New York, I grew up with many of the dishes. Obviously, I highly reccomend this book. 2 tomato sauce covered thumbs up!

Since my Italian grandmother knows how much I love her cooking, she gave this cookbook to me as a gift. The recipes are very simple, using everyday ingredients. My roommate and I have replaced Mac and Cheese with Dom's Pasta i Fagioli. This book is great for college kids who miss mom's Italian cooking, but don't want to spend hours over the stove.

I was raised in the Italian restaurant business--par excellence! REAL ITALIANOS! This book surpasses anything I ever saw/learned during those many years. I have strongly recommended it to ALL my friends and anyone else who would listen. I've given it as gifts on several occasions and nothing but loud lauds for Dom. INCOMPARABLE by anyone's standards---foreign born or "retreads"! :-)

Great Cook Book,

I love to cook. Over the years I have collected a large number of cookbooks of all varieties. I am also of Italian decent so naturally I am somewhat biased with regards to Italian cookbooks. I owned a copy of this book for years and I used it so often that it literally fell apart so I purchased another copy. The recipes in this book are extremely easy to follow and Dom Deluise fills the book with humorous stories that any Italian can relate to. The meals I have cooked bring back memories of eating at my grandparents home and the taste is almost identical to the way my grandmother made them. I thought those meals would be lost forever when they died but thanks to Dom, I can re-create them in my own home and my children can carry on the tradition. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes to cook and eat great southern Italian food.

This book is the best Italian cookbook I have found since it includes so many vegetarian recipes, which is rare in an Italian cookbook, AND recipes do not begin with 2 cups of olive oil and 20 cloves of garlic as other Italian cookbooks do. I love it also for its fun reading and different cookbook style. This one is a winner for lazy cooks like me.

This book is very warmly written, with loving tributes to the author's family members and friends. It is fun to read (and to get "inside" views of various celebrities). And the recipes are simple, but delectable. Everything I've tried has been sensational. The Pasta e Fagioli is very quick and easy to prepare (the easiest version I've ever seen). For some reason, I had expected this to be a rather exotic dish -- and was therefore very disappointed the first time I made it. However, before I knew what had happened, I had eaten three helpings. Although I don't have a drop of Italian blood in my veins, I now consider this the ultimate comfort food.
