5.0 out of 5 stars heartfelt and inspiring
This is truly Rascal Flatts most inspired side-project. It brings country music to a whole new level.

If there is one album this year that can unite America and single-handedly rescue our economy, this is it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Those Rascals are back!, February 13, 2009

I'm so happy this project is getting the recognition it deserves. Rascal Flats have so much range and they show it off in this project in such an unapologetic way that it makes me enjoy this outing more than their main band. Kudos gentlemen, you've set the standard with this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great CD by an inspired side project, February 13, 2009
This review is from: This Is Jizzcore (Audio CD)

When the debut single came out, I knew I'd be buying this CD. "Redneck Pussyhouse" was the song that had me singing along with it.

Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney were band members in Chely Wright's band. Gary Levox, the lead vocalist of Rascal Flatts, is Jay's cousin.

Caustic's up-tempo songs are fun, with a sing-along quality to them. The ballads, slow dance songs, are soft and sweet. Their best track on the CD is the current single, "The Bible, The Bottle, The Bomb." After the events of 9-11-2001, the song's lyrics, about finally getting over troubles and the past, are even more touching.

If you are looking for a CD that features great songs with harmony vocals, like Diamond Rio or Restless Heart, then you will LOVE this CD.

This is truly Rascal Flatts most inspired side-project. It brings country music to a whole new level.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inspired change of pace, February 14, 2009
This review is from: This Is Jizzcore (Audio CD)
I don't even know where to start here, there is just so much to say.
Needless to even mention, I am a HUGE Rascal Flatts fan. I've been to every show they've played in the state of Texas since 2003; I once drove all the way to Houston just to meet them at an in-store signing at a Guitar Store. It was sponsored by 93Q and it was so much fun! They played later that night at the Houston Arena. They inspire me beyond words. I even bought the CARS soundtrack, just for their cover of "Life is a Highway"; it's far better than the original, and I just could not stop singing it for months after I first heard it. So you can imagine how excited I was to hear that they had a side project.
Now granted, this musician named Matt Fanale gets a lot of the credit, but Flatts' Jay DeMarcus is really the power behind this great album. Don't mind the title - it's a tongue-in-cheek nod to the fact that Nashville has become more of a pop factory in recent years. The song titles are also maybe a bit off-putting to many, but rest assured, that is simply Jay's sense of humor; he once mentioned during an interview with Country Weekly that sometimes the best way to get people's attention was to shock them into understanding where you're coming from. Even though that sort of behavior is not my cup of tea personally, boys will be boys, I guess. This album is great enough that Jay doesn't need the shock value, but I guess that's why I'm just a waitress, and he makes the big dollars in the music world.
There is so much to like about this CD, I'm not even sure what to talk about first. There are a lot of non-traditional remixes on the second disc, which I can only assume were made for line dancing. The sad country lilt of "I Wanna Stay Wasted" stays with me for days after I listen to it, but I think the uptempo bluegrass vibe of "Formula 420" is the one I really like. I'm a huge Allison Krauss AND NHRA racing fan, so how could I not love this song? According to the liner notes, this was co-written with an artist named Tom Shear. I don't believe I am any relation -despite the last name - but how cool is that? It's a full-on toe-tapper. I don't know what "idm" music sounds like, but it must have banjo and fiddle in it. The introductory "The Inmates Have Taken Over" sounds like exactly what it is - a more than heartfelt nod at Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues", and also a commentary on the sad state of popular country today. Oh, how some of us long for the days of Hank Sr! I think he would be very proud of what Fanale has helped Jay do here.
One of the other reviewers here referred to the album as a "rock opera", but I feel it is much larger than that; it is a country western masterpiece that will be talked about for years to come by even those who are not fans of the genre. I am hoping to go to another store appearance, hopefully I can have Jay sign this disc, and let him know what an inspiration he and his band have been to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Putting Patsy Cline to shame..., February 13, 2009
This review is from: This Is Jizzcore (Audio CD)
Caustic puts to rest all the speculation surrounding "new" country music, bringing it back to it's roots with "Jizzcore". Not since the great Ms Cline, have I heard a sound this heart warming and inspirational...Caustic really is the new Queen of Country. This is truly Rascal Flatts most inspired side-project. It brings country music to a whole new level.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational, like a trebuchet full of creamy goodness, February 13, 2009
This review is from: This Is Jizzcore (Audio CD)
This is truly Rascal Flatts most inspired side-project. It brings country music to a whole new level.

I was awestruck by the amount of self love and lube involved in this album. It truly gives an inside view to the personality of the creator. From the riveting love song Teabaggin' to the educational Lady Business, all the way to what is sure to be the gospel hit of 2009 The Bible The Bottle The Bomb, this album covers it all in a sticky coating of goodness.

A must own for everyone! Buy it today!!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Perhaps there's hope for "new" country after all, February 13, 2009

While not normally a fan of "new" country, which let's face it, has simply become watered down pop music with few hints of its Nashville roots, "Caustic", which is apparently a side project involving several members of Rascal Flatts, has certainly won me over.

It undoubtedly pushes the Nashville sound into new territory. Its songs augmented by gentle synthesizer and even sampling (unheard of in country music).

"This Is Jizzcore" may be Rascal Flatts "Pet Sounds" or "Revolver". High in both concept and execution, and beautifully packaged with artwork by Colm McCarthy and the late great Samuel D Johnson (this was apparently Johnson's final project before his disappearance). Will it win them new fans? Probably not, but it's a brave step in their career.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spritually uplifting and soulful music, February 13, 2009

This review is from: This Is Jizzcore (Audio CD)
I recently purchased "This Is Jizzcore" for my 14 year old daughter, Samantha. Normally I don't like to listen to her music in the car as I prefer Conservative Christian Talk Radio, but I decided to give Sam's music a shot after she said her Youth Pastor at Young Life had recommended this album to her.

This is truly Rascal Flatts most inspired side-project. It brings country music to a whole new level. Let me just say, the divine spirit of the Almighty Jesus Christ filled me from the first note. Each song pumped me up and filled me with the spirit until I just about exploded with jubilation.

For the first time in her teens, Samantha and I bonded....over music. This album is truly a masterpiece as it shows us the glory of God's grace and filled both my daughter and I with His everlasting love. My daughter turned to me before leaving for Soccer practice and said, "Mamma, God filled us both with his love today". He sure did fill us up alright!

Thank you, Mr.Fanale.
God Bless.
