The ultimate folk music concert,
This review is from: This Land Is Your Land - The Folk Years (DVD)
This was one of the American Soundtrack series concerts originally aired on PBS in 2002, and includes all the great names of early folk music. Although the sound is not perfect, it is still highly acceptable, and this nearly two hour concert features a cornucopia of American folk music from the fifties and sixties. I personally enjoy this concert and others in the series not only for the music, but also to actually see what some of these people look like, since much of this type of music went out of general circulation before I was born. If you enjoy folk music, I highly recommend this DVD.
Amazing Grace, Both Sides Now, and Send In The Clowns - Judy Collins MTA, Where Have All the Flowers Gone, Greenback Dollar, Scotch and Soda, Tom Dooley, and Worried Man - The Kingston Trio Michael, Cotton Fields, and Number One - the Highwaymen Baby The Rain Must Fall and I Didn't See the Time - Glenn Yarbrough There's a Meeting Here Tonight - Glenn Yarbrough & The Limelighters Power and the Glory, Lonesome Traveler, and Generic Uptempo Folk Song - The Limelighters Greenfields and Try to Remember - The Brothers Four Madrigal - Smothers Brothers Eve of Destruction - Barry McGuire Mr. Tambourine Man, Turn! I attened High School from 1962 to 1966 and grew up on this kind of music. So anybody in their mid 50's should enjoy this DVD. You can't avoid singing along while clapping your hands. If you have kids or grandkids you can show them what real music and real singing was in "your days"!

I remember when I thought Folk Singers were for Hippies and I refused to listen. Now, I see the errors of my ways, they were absolutely tremendous! See for yourelf. If you don't stand up and sing along with with "This Land Is your Land", I'll be amazed. If you didn't see the PBS special, see it now!

The PBS show This Land is Your Land was one of the best PBS specials ever aired. This DVD contains about two hours of songs from the show.
This opens with Judy Collins singing Amazing Grace a capella. Truely amazing - her voice is as beautiful as when I first heard her in the 60's. Judy is followed by the Kingston Trio and the HIghwaymen and many others. Including The Smothers Brothers, who are as good today as they were in their youth. We watched this as if we were entranced. If you like folk songs from the 1960's then you will probably love this DVD. Words cannot express the feelings when viewing (and singing along in the privacy of your own home) this DVD.

I finally struck gold. After being disappointed with individual concert DVD's this one is a home run. The stars of the early 60's while long in the tooth brought me back to my college days with the Kingston Trio, The Highwaymen, Judy Collins and many more.

I grew up with the Weavers and Pete Seeger. This DVD would be 5 stars if there were some clips of them. In any event, it was fun to hear songs that I often sang using my 5 string banjo during my college and Village days. And I still melt when I see those Judy Collins eyes.

I'm giving this show five stars because the performances are exceptional, especially the Kingston Trio and The Brothers Four. There is NOTHING wrong with the sound. My only question/complaint: How on earth can you put on a show like this and NOT have Peter, Paul, & Mary on it? I don't get it.
