Lush? You Said It!,

Yeah sure there are some really painfully uncomfortable Oscar moments on this CD (and unlike another reveiwer on this page has stated, it's Oscar who's voice strains and sounds off key, not Sam's whispered vocals-check the credits)but despite these moments, this release has so many incredible tracks like "Left,Unsaid", "Overwhelmed, Beneath Me" and "The Turbulence and the Torment". Very beautiful inspirational tracks. Despite the few low points, there are so many high points of such quality that I beleive this is Black Tape's strongest release as a whole, to date. The bad is uncomfortable but the good is so very very good that it is a must buy for anyone into dark music.

I am listening to this album right now. It is an incredibly moody and beautiful album. I always find myself playing it when I feel depressed. The voices and melodies grip the sadness in my soul and turn it into something surreal and beautiful. It makes my mind wander and takes it to a peaceful place where it makes the sadness flow away into the universe. This is truly an album to lose yourself into. I also recommend it to people who love poetry. Not only are the lyrics poetry, but the music is also very much inspiring to write. well worth the 5 stars.

it seems that on this recording, sam rosenthal achieves all that he set out to accomplish with black tape for a blue girl. beginning with the haunting, and ghostly "left, unsaid", this lush garden.. consistently numbs the listener into a conscious, delicious dream. the religious overtones of the work are prevalent, yet not overbearing, and give clues into rosenthals own pain and desires. lucian casselman's flawless vocals make this a grandiose and compelling outing for black tape, and point the listener towards the orchestral and complex "remnants of a deeper purity".

Black Tape For a Blue Girl - This Lush Garden Within,

This release is just too quiet, seriously, there was nothing behind this recording. Too many lulls in music, too much silence. This CD put me to sleep, which isn't a good thing when I'm driving. From what I could hear the music was beautiful, but there were too many dead spots, much of time there was nothing of significance going on. I found this release to be choppy and aggravating, switching from an ethereal soundscape to complete nothingness. Boring, uninspired, pointless (for the most part), strictly for the fans.

The BEST of Black Tape for a Blue Girl,

This album is by far Black Tape's best, the range of which hasn't been reproduced to the same quality on any of their other releases. After being at least slightly disappointed in 'As One Aflame' I can always return to this highly emotional and complex album.

slow and dark but beautiful!,

As other reviewers have stated this is a wery melancholic cd. It is quite dark from begining to end. But it has a wery etheral beauty to it. I guess this cd is for those speciall moments.. Personally I don't get depressed by black tapes music, I rather perceive it as beautiful. I might ad that I am not a goth, and that most of my cd collection is quite happy pop and ethnic music. But well, in the end,If someone likes Black tape they will like this cd- And if not they probably whan't. This Lush Garden is not the music that suites al tastes.

Total despair and decrepitude beyond all hope. Wheeee!,

I usually like darker stuff -- one of my favorite bands is Lycia, and for many years I was a big Cure fan -- but I find Black Tape fairly thoroughly devoid of redeeming qualities. First off, the music is sometimes nice, but usually not that great. The ones Sam sings on would seem to indicate he is tone-deaf. There's an anonymous quote I heard once that keeps floating up in my mind - "It may well be that your only purpose in life is to serve as a warning to others." Well, not unlike your 30-year-old coworker who is a temp, lives with his parents, and will pretty much never be anything more than he is right now, such is what the music of Black Tape For A Blue Girl amounts to. These people just love being miserable; they can't get enough of it, so they can have an outlet for being poetic and "deep" and self-obsessed and have all the equally [self-obsessed] goths kissing their platform shoes. As though a warning to others, this music exists as a testimony to what happens when human relationships become the be-all and end-all of one's existence. I know these views are not going to be appreciated, but I wanted to call it like I see it anyway. So go ahead, hit that "not helpful" button. I wear it as a trophy.
