5.0 out of 5 stars Makes Up for everything I didn't like previously! January 27, 2012
By Mike R
Format:Audio CD
What was Attack Attack known for before? Crabcore (which I admit was hilarious), Heavy riffs and gutter yells, Blatant Auto Tuning and throwing in random dance type songs. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for genre blending, however, theirs just felt so out of place. I really didn't like this band before because it didn't offer anything that I haven't heard before that wasn't, well, better.

I hear their new album (yes this one) because youtube kept wanting me to listen to their new single The Wretched, I did, and I loved it. They got rid of the auto tuning, random as heck dance songs, and their new singer has more passion in his voice to the point his vocal box sounds like it was replaced by chocolate malt balls (unlike their last clean singer). Calebs pulling double duty on clean/unclean and man is he a beast! He doesn't sound the greatest to ever exist, but its the fact that he actually puts his heart and sole into it rather than sounding like a robot with auto tune makes me like it 100x better (can you tell I hate auto tune?).

Instruments are amazing, I never complained about their instruments in the past. Just didn't care for certain element choices in the music.

All In all, its a concept album, I really enjoy those. I'm just happy they got rid of the robot singer.

5/5

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff January 18, 2012
By Acro
Format:Audio CD
Not going to be a very long review but you'll get the idea.

I quite enjoyed the new offering from Attack Attack! I've only gotten to listen to the album one time through and while it's very cohesive from beginning to end, I did find that the tracks tend to blur but at the same time none of them felt out of place. Caleb, the lead singer/screams, had to change up his vocal still while I find it doesn't pack the punch that his vocals did from their second album, it is better for his vocal chords meaning he will be able to do it for longer with no negative side affects on his voice. I was quite impressed with Calebs cleans and I found them quite refreshing to the old singer Johnny but that's just me.

As far as the instruments goes, this ablum hits just as hard if not harder than their self titled album did. I throughly enjoyed while it seems that there were some cool little licks thrown in it, there is also a fair amount of chug chug style parts. The drumming is still good. And the few "syth"( I put in quotes because I'm not sure if that's what you would call it) parts that were in the album were well placed and done well. Although I wish there were maybe a few more.

Overall I throughly enjoyed the new Attack Attack! cd and can't wait to listen to it again.

4 1/2 out of 5 (rounded up to 5 since there is no half option)

Took half off because some of the songs sound quite similar but it's not really a big deal.

Happy listening and happy head-banging :)

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but it should've been an EP May 9, 2012
Format:Audio CD
First off, I like this new style. They finally got rid of the dance music junk, and I like Caleb's vocal style better. (I personally liked Austin and was sad to see him go) The reason I rated this album only three stars is stunning lack of variety. Every song has the same basic pattern, and there really isn't very much variation from track-to-track. It's almost like they put real thought into a couple songs, and then just gave up halfway through writing the album. I really think they should've made an EP with The Wretched, The Motivation, The Eradication, and The Revolution. The other songs are very generic and unoriginal. In summary, I think this is a step in the right direction, it just needs more variety and originality. This band shows great promise, hopefull their next album will be amazing.

Of all the AA! albums there are, this is by far the best. The choruses are catchy, the screams are perfectly heavy, and the whole album has a central theme. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars This is HORRIBLE
While I admire their courage, trying to find a new sound in a very repetitive world of metal, they did an absolutely horrible job at it. EVERY single song sounds the same. Read more
