His piano proficiency, vocal phrasings, and utter coolness all hark back to his jazz roots, even in his decidedly pop repertoire or arrangements. Whether singing "Nature Boy", jamming with guitarist Oscar Moore, or performing posthumous duets with his daughter Natalie Cole,… Read more in Amazon's Nat King Cole Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sound, July 25, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: This Is My Night to Dream (Audio CD)
Nat King Cole's trio in the '40s is one of the hippest and most inventive small groups in jazz history. It continues to exert a large influence today (for example, in the work of the Diana Krall trio, John Pizzarelli's work and so forth). By far, this presentation by Vocalion is the BEST SOUNDING CD compilation we have of Cole's early '40's work. Highly recommended!
