Barry Manilow is a master of the love ballad.,
By urrybr@earthlink.net (Salt Lake City, Utah USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: This One's for You (Audio CD)
I have always appreciated the music of Barry Manilow. In today's world where the beat is the most important part, and the lyrics are taken straight from the gutter, it is refreshing to hear the music of a truly gifted composer, and a fine human being. Mr. Manilow artfully weaves his melodies together with heart-felt lyrics that touch everyone that listens. This album/CD is one of his best. Weekend in New England soars with emotion that climaxes with a gentle resolution that flows like a soft autumn breeze. A classic in every sense. Thank you Barry Manilow

Remastered 1976 Barry,
By
This review is from: This One's for You (Exp) (Audio CD)
This was Barry's 4th album and is an extended version of the original 1976 album. It includes bonus tracks: "Don't Throw It All Away," "Can't Go Back Anymore," "This is Fine," and "I Really Do Write The Songs". There are a total of 15 tracks in all. Total time runs a hair over 49 minutes.
"This One's For You, Daybreak, Weekend in New England, Jump Shout Boogie and Looks Like We Made It" you've probably heard many times before. They are great standard Manilow Musik and are done well, as always. "You Oughta Be Home With Me, and "Say The Words" are new to me and are great, as is ALL of Barry's tunes. "Riders to the Stars" and "Let Me Go" are on only one or two of my other Barry CDs and I really like them. "All the Time" is beautiful and also seldom on Barry's CDs, as is "See the Show Again" seldom heard and is pretty. The 4 Bonus Tracks include "I Really Do Write the Songs" and are all new to me. Of course, we all know "I Write the Songs," but this is different. It's a funny one about how to write a song. Nice album and boy! Can ya heah that Brooklyn accent in "I Really Do Write the Songs". Since I'm from Balmer, Merlin (Baltimore, Maryland), I have a wee bit of an accent, too--especially with words like pockeybook and zink. (That's translated as pocketbook and sink in finishing school, but when I failed it 5 years in a row, they threw me out!) Anyway, there's a booklet included with all the words, so ya can sing along with Barry.

THIS ALBUM RANKS AS MY ALL TIME MANILOW FAVORITE!,

IT'S UNUSAL TO BUY AN ALBUM AND LOVE EVERY SONG BUT THIS RELEASE IS THE EXCEPTION. ALONG WITH THE HITS "LOOKS LIKE WE MADE IT" AND "WEEKEND IN NEW ENGLAND", I LOVE THE STUDIO EDITION OF "DAYBREAK" AND THE SONGS THAT FEATURE HIS PIANO PLAYING: "SEE THE SHOW AGAIN", "ALL THE TIME". I ONLY WISH THAT ARISTA WOULD RE-RELEASE THIS ONE AS A MASTERS SELECTION WITH A BONUS SONG!
