5.0 out of 5 stars Barry Manilow is a master of the love ballad.
I have always appreciated the music of Barry Manilow. In today's world where the beat is the most important part, and the lyrics are taken straight from the gutter, it is refreshing to hear the music of a truly gifted composer, and a fine human being. Mr. Manilow artfully weaves his melodies together with heart-felt lyrics that touch everyone that listens. This album/CD is one of his best. Weekend in New England soars with emotion that climaxes with a gentle resolution that flows like a soft autumn breeze. A classic in every sense. Thank you Barry Manilow

5.0 out of 5 stars Remastered 1976 Barry, June 29, 2007
By
Kathy W (Baltimore, MD, USA) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (VINE VOICE)
This was Barry's 4th album and is an extended version of the original 1976 album. It includes bonus tracks: "Don't Throw It All Away," "Can't Go Back Anymore," "This is Fine," and "I Really Do Write The Songs". There are a total of 15 tracks in all. Total time runs a hair over 49 minutes.

"This One's For You, Daybreak, Weekend in New England, Jump Shout Boogie and Looks Like We Made It" you've probably heard many times before. They are great standard Manilow Musik and are done well, as always.

"You Oughta Be Home With Me, and "Say The Words" are new to me and are great, as is ALL of Barry's tunes. "Riders to the Stars" and "Let Me Go" are on only one or two of my other Barry CDs and I really like them. "All the Time" is beautiful and also seldom on Barry's CDs, as is "See the Show Again" seldom heard and is pretty. The 4 Bonus Tracks include "I Really Do Write the Songs" and are all new to me. Of course, we all know "I Write the Songs," but this is different. It's a funny one about how to write a song.

Nice album and boy! Can ya heah that Brooklyn accent in "I Really Do Write the Songs". Since I'm from Balmer, Merlin (Baltimore, Maryland), I have a wee bit of an accent, too--especially with words like pockeybook and zink. (That's translated as pocketbook and sink in finishing school, but when I failed it 5 years in a row, they threw me out!) Anyway, there's a booklet included with all the words, so ya can sing along with Barry.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS ALBUM RANKS AS MY ALL TIME MANILOW FAVORITE!, May 16, 1999

IT'S UNUSAL TO BUY AN ALBUM AND LOVE EVERY SONG BUT THIS RELEASE IS THE EXCEPTION. ALONG WITH THE HITS "LOOKS LIKE WE MADE IT" AND "WEEKEND IN NEW ENGLAND", I LOVE THE STUDIO EDITION OF "DAYBREAK" AND THE SONGS THAT FEATURE HIS PIANO PLAYING: "SEE THE SHOW AGAIN", "ALL THE TIME". I ONLY WISH THAT ARISTA WOULD RE-RELEASE THIS ONE AS A MASTERS SELECTION WITH A BONUS SONG!

Why hasn't this album been remastered like the rest of Barry's albums?

5.0 out of 5 stars I bought this the first time when it was on vinyl, September 7, 2005

I didn't plan to buy this CD. I happened to be in my old high school haunt, Tower Records, and there it was in front of me, so in a fit of nostalgia, I bought it. According to the notes, this first came out in 1976 -- is that right? I'm happy to say that this album is still very good, even at 29-and-holding.

5.0 out of 5 stars this one's for us, February 10, 2004
This review is from: This One's for You (Audio CD)
out of the 11 tracks on the CD, i like nine of them. the ones i don't like as much are "Say The Words" and "You Oughta Be Home With Me". i just couldn't understand Manilow on the second song, which has a title closer to a country song than what Manilow is used to...however the rest of the 9 songs are great. "Weekend in New England", "Looks Like We Made It", "This One's For You", and "Daybreak" were all SMASH HITS on the Easy Listening charts {now called AC, short for Adult-Contemporary}. In fact, they all landed high on the Hot 100 pop chart too with "Looks Like We Made It" selling a million copies and hitting #1 in 1977. The "Daybreak" on here isn't the single version...THAT was taken from his 1977 "LIVE!" album. "Riders to the Stars" is my favorite of all the songs on here that weren't singles.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great Manilow album, March 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The title track and 'Looks Like We Made It' were the big hits, but 'Daybreak' is so uplifting and fun! 'Jump, Shout, Boogie' is a fast tempo, feel good 40's type of song, and 'Weekend in New England' is a simple, beautiful ballad. Listen to the song samples and you will see what I mean.

5.0 out of 5 stars Barry Manilow This ones for You, June 28, 2009

This a a reproduction of one of Barry's first hit albums. The CD picks up the young tone and sound in Barry's voice that I love so very much. Every song on it is a winner!

Listening to this a few weeks ago. Pretty standard early Manilow and then I got to the last four tracks and I was astonished. Can't Go Back Anymore has a wonderful lyric. This Is Fine would fit in perfectly in 2 AM Paradise Cafe, as interesting a song as he has ever done.

And why doesn't he do "I Really Do Write The Songs" in his live shows. It is an incredible parody.

My poor old Barry albums are in a dark corner of a back bedroom where I don't think I can even get to them any more. So I have been slowly replacing them with CD's. I remember mooning over his cute face and feeling like crying over Weekend in New England. It's right back to the sad, lovely, lonely and yearning days of my first love, Barry love. Every song goes straight to the heart and is sung to me alone. That's his real magic. Get your heart back! Remember love?
