Gorgeous!,
This review is from: This Ordinary Thursday - The Songs of Georgia Stitt (Audio CD)
I'm SO glad I bought this CD! Each beautiful song is a mini One Act play, with glorious and surprising melodies, and sophisticated, engaging lyrics. Oh, and the voices! Kelli O'Hara singing "Perfect Summer" is simply gorgeous, and Faith Prince's light-hearted and touching vocal on "I Get To Show You The Ocean" is perfection. Every song is a winner!

These are songs from the heart. Georgia Stitt has talent galore and this CD is only the beginning. Every word sung touches your soul and stays in your head. I especially loved her tribute to her daughter! I cried when I heard it, thinking of my own children! I can't wait until more works come out of this wonderfully talented, blessed individual because I know we haven't seen the last of this gem!

Georgia Stitt has something to say,

Georgia Stitt has something to say. She speaks with sincerity through lyrics that notice the details of living and find substance. Her music is equally honest in it varied flavors from artsong ("These Two") to my least favorite--country ("Big Wings") to fun show tune ("I Get to Show you the Ocean") to power ballad ("The Holy Secret" and the stunning "I Lay my Armor Down") to the intimate, more sophisticated than pop, title track. No matter the flavor of the music, the unifying factor is a fresh look at the little gestures of living that unintentionally expose a bit of truth.

If you're looking for music from one of the most influential up and coming Broadway writers of our time, with people who actually know what they're doing behind the microphone, then you've found your match with this album!
Through this whirlwind roller coaster ride of emotions, we get to know a little more about Ms. Stitt, and are all the better for it. She's got some of Broadway's brightest stars singing her emotionally wrought lyrics and soulfully moving themes. Between her and her husband, we may be looking at our generation's Comden and Green! The highlight of this CD, for me, is Faith Prince's rendition of "I Get to Show You the Ocean." If you've any love of Broadway at all, BUY THIS CD!

A very talented composer, add to that a lineup of some of Broadway's best vocalists and you get this perfect debut album.
The songs are personal, intelligent and captivating. Her lyrics clever and inspired. My favorites are Lauren Kennedy's "I Lay My Armor Down," Matthew Morrison's "One Day More," Jenn Colella's "Big Wings," Faith Prince's "I Get To Show You The Ocean." The album is not at all tedious or monotonous, each song is distinct. Another remarkable song is This Ordinary Thursday (sung by Susan Egan), a song about her husband Jason Robert Brown. Actually, I loved every song, it's impossible to choose just one and each performer shines and deserves their own spotlight. It's just a brilliant debut. Now I want a 2nd recording. And a Georgia Stitt musical. Better yet, a JRB-Georgia musical. |
