5.0 out of 5 stars The Lights Are Blinding With This One, July 20, 2008

This review is from: This Is an Outrage (Audio CD)
Looking at reviews for this album, I noticed several similarities between them. Not only were they overwhelming positive, but there were comparisons to Anberlin and Relient K, and it was definitely my style of music. So I had to check out this album. And let me say, that folks, the critics are overwhelmingly right on this one. No ifs, ands, or buts, just wows and whoas. This is the next big thing and they certainly have the debut to show for it.

In describing the sound of this band, it would be accurate to say they're a cross of the best elements of Anberlin and Relient K, with a little bit of Metro Station mixed in for extra fun, with hints of Yellowcard. It's pop rock at some of its best. And even though these songs aren't exactly catchy by themselves, you'll remember the general feel of the song, and pick up the chorus after you hear the album a few times.

Picking a favorite track off this album is rather hard to do, because you could basically come to any point in the record and say, "that's an awesome track." But that isn't exactly the best of news for DJ's, which need single material, and none of these songs really stand out as singles that could rock radio out all summer long. So I can see it hard to grow a fan base for this band unless somebody picks up the record, or probably sees them in concert.

This album is all about rock melodies, and they are plenty to be had. The music very pleasing, very rockin', and embodies emotions and feelings. They do sound like something that Yellowcard, The Starting Line or Boys Like Girls would do, but haven't done, which strangely gives this an almost original feel. Maybe it's because these sounds have never sounded this good combined before.

Vocally, all of it is perfect for the songs and the band. It helps give the band their trademark sound. And while I would like a little bit more vocal variety, it all seems to work, just like the rest of the album. But wait, it does change a bit vocally on the electronic/synth extravaganza that is "Mile Away." That song also provides very pleasing lyrics like the rest of the album. And while nothing really seems to stand out one-on-one, it all stands as one and does provide glimpses of really great lyrics, although what is here isn't anything to sneeze at either. Again, it all works.

Overall, while no track exactly stands out, all of them mesh into a cohesive and amazing record. A truly wondrous debut not matched in ages, if ever. It's certainly one of the best albums of the year in any genre, Christian or Mainstream. It all flows, it all rocks, it's fun, it's well-done, well-written and just plain amazing. One thing is for sure, Capital Lights will have a truly wonderful journey ahead of them, and I can't wait to see what they'll throw at us next.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best New Band I've Heard in Years, July 10, 2008
This review is from: This Is an Outrage (Audio CD)
This album is flawless from the first song, title track "outrage" to the last song "Frank Morris." With its catchy hooks and amazing vocals this band could really make it big. "Remember the day" is my favorite but I can honestly say i wouldnt skip one song on the bands Debut CD. I plan on hearing big things about these guys in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars How Music Should Be, July 9, 2008
This review is from: This Is An Outrage! (MP3 Download)
There are few and far bands that have the potential to change where the music industry will go. Capital Lights may not know it yet, but they are setting a new standard for our generation. Having seen this band grow along its way to becoming who and what they are to audiences now is enough reason to enjoy their music. Their personalities truly reflect their music: Catchy, inspiring, and fun to dance with. The lyrical ability reminisces renaissance narration, the guitars explode with licks that will leave you thirsty, and the beat could go on forever and I'd still listen to it. The only thing that is an outrage is that Capital Lights is just now being discovered by the music nation.

I ordered this CD on here and it came today. I am already listening to it for the second time. I saw this group in concert on November 18, 2008, and they were amazing. The cd is just as good. There wasnt a song on it that I didnt really like. I cant really choose a favorite song. they are all so good. If you like groups such as Hawk Nelson and Relient K, give Capital Lights a listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Debut Album, July 9, 2008

This review is from: This Is An Outrage! (MP3 Download)
So I am a big fan of other Tooth and Nail bands such as Emery, Anberlin, and The Classic Crime. So I was looking through other bands under this label and I cam across Capital Lights. I saw they were coming out with the first album, and since I am a sucker for new music I had to check it out. I was amazed that this was the debut album by these guys. Most debut albums are a little rough around the edges, but this one was the rare exception. To be real, though it may not be perfect, I feel that for a first album this by far deserves 5 stars. I am looking forward already to this groups next album. If you like groups like The Classic Crime and so on, get this one. You will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars fast fun music, April 23, 2011

the whole album keeps the pace up with high vocals and pop radio instruments. The lyrics, too, are catchy and (thankfully) not full of repetitive phrases. All around strong album which will keep you listening.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised. Great album from a new group!, April 28, 2010

I initially was skeptical at a lot of the 5 star reviews considering I had never heard of this band at all, and I listen to a lot of similar artists. The album was an infectious and catchy surprise, nothing groundbreaking but a very solid first effort. For people who like Anberlin or Relient K, other recommendations were pretty spot on, though his voice to me sounds reminiscent of the singer of Green Day.

I haven't opened it yet. But I know from a friend that this cd is awesome. If you like upbeat music with a positive Christian feel. Sadly their band broke up, so this is their only cd. But if you are looking for some alternative Christian music with a little edge this is the one!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Get it fast!, August 26, 2009
This review is from: This Is an Outrage (Audio CD)
Sorry to say this, but Capital Lights will no longer be a band, and with that said, get you cd soon, as you may not be able to find them soon. Also this band is awsome, i saw them live, and i have the cd. The cd has a great variety of songs, some slower, but many are up-beat. The guitars sounds are uncomparable, and the lyrics are very new, and original. This is one of the best christian bands i have listened to because they are so unique. The lyrics are hard to interpret, but it is one of the best CDs that I bought last year. I was really anticipating another great record, too bad the band had to part ways, but it was God's.

My son and I watched their OUTRAGE music video and decided to try them out. Overall, this is a great album. Outrage and Mile Away are the best 2 songs but all of the songs are good. It is worth buying the whole album. The lyrics are very cryptic, which is fun though they seem to focus on breakups. The Mile Away song is very cryptic and seems to be about a guy who runs away from a girl with whom he is in love (and apparently she is in love with him as well). Why he runs away is not fully explained. I would prefer more 'Christian lyrics' from a 'Christian band'. Again, great melodies along with great, if not cryptic, lyrics. Lots of fun and I can't wait for the encore.
