5.0 out of 5 stars This band just gets better and better..., August 15, 2002

...with each successive album. On this, their second disk, Mesh continues to travel the darker strata. This band consistantly stikes resonant chords of lust, rage, angst and loneliness.

Before I'd even heard their work, I'd read a brief description of their sound as Depeche Mode meets NIN. In hindsight, i'd say more the former than the latter but really, Mesh has carved out their own distinct sound.

Like so many darkwave/synthpop bands out there it's a shame that
this music can't be found on the radio or on MTV. Instead we're treated to a neverending stream of pap. Perhaps it's for the better, as it is Mesh and the rest (the Nine, Iris, Blind Passengers, Beborn Beton, Static Icon, etc) remain a treasured secret worth sharing.

Favorite tracks: 'Confined', 'I don't think they know', and 'Something wrong'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Shattering!, November 30, 1999
This review is from: In This Place Forever (Audio CD)
This is Mesh's second release and in it they explore more fully what they only hinted at on their first release, "Fragile." This album is nothing less than a landmark album of edgy, straight-from-the-heart, industrial-synthpop. The feeling Mesh expresses throughout is so real, so translucent, and so honest, that it is hard not to be moved by the whole experience the is "ITPF." There are times when the music becomes harsh and gritty-sounding. Then there are the moments when beautiful melodies stream in and change the whole landscape of the music. All of this is dependent to the emotions and passions currently being dealt out in each individual song. Also, it would be a shame not to mention the poigniant, yet gorgeous, lyrics which permeate everything. They put most bands to shame in this area of writing. All-in-all, this is one release that is important, both musically and emotionally. Get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars MESH in this place forever!, January 20, 2003
This review is from: In This Place Forever (Audio CD)
In the last two years of the 80's I was moved by a hardly known vocal talent that of Dean Russell. As the lead singer for MOEV he made the then crossover industrial sound very emotional and aesthetic without being "overly" harsh. It was probably my last favorite 80's act. MESH not related in any way had that aesthetic for the 90's and now the new millennium and have made amazing crossover electro. This was the first album I listened to and was immediately moved by the structure of the piece (I consider each of their albums a themed piece of work). This is one intelligent and very well crafted album. Plan to be taken on an emotive and enjoyable journey. Just EXCELLENT.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new listener to Mesh..., September 21, 2011

...and the descriptions "synthpop" "darkwave" "industrial" captures this group's aura. I have a couple of really great albums (The Point Where It Falls Apart and Who Watches Over Me, both much more lyrical than this album) but this album is the most interesting in terms of grittiness, unusual sound creations and overall artsy fartsy-ness. Unlike the above reviewer, I'm glad Mesh is not well-known in the States...makes me think I'm on to some underground music movement.

Mesh is one of those bands that makes you want to return to their roots. They have everything you need; the electronics are great, the moods ar emoving (and normally revolve around loss, anger, and sadness), and the vocals are superb. I remember hearing them a long time ago and then seeing them live; both experiences were way beyond what I thought I knew about music.
It just seems to get better.

With this album, I found my first introduction and quite a few great songs. Even now, some ten years later, the album has done quite well for itself. The beats still work out, the vocals are not distorted so they do not need a change and they have no flair that needs to be remixed. It all seems to simply come from the experiences of the heart. When the band compared influences they noted a lot of the Syth bands of the 80s, and you can hear that in some of their stuff. That is great, too, because it is a grand cornerstone for a lot of what EBM and electronica is.

Check out Mesh and see what you think. you might want to go new and then go backward, but you might find that this band is not that way at all. Their stuff is going out of print rapidly and that is one thing to note, so you might want to find out what you want from the band. Persoanlly, I go back through my catalog and find so much worthwhile music; if you have yet to try out this band and many other Metropolis Records signees, you should .

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Band of all time, October 1, 2004
By
This review is from: In This Place Forever (Audio CD)
I've been a big fan of all types of music, and can list AC/DC, Depeche Mode, Alphaville, The Scorpions, Boston, Styx, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails as some of my favorites. I was gaining more interest in the underground synthpop scene a few years ago and bought a sampler CD that contained a single by Mesh. I was so stunned by one of their songs, that I was convinced to buy one of their albums immediately (which I NEVER DO). It turns out that I thought all of the songs were awesome... yet very different on each track. I wanted more, so I bought 2 more CD's within a couple of weeks. Now I have every album they have recorded, and I must say that this band has a great blend of what I like most... powerful vocals and lyrics, strong guitars and drums, with a bit of keyboards and melody to make it interesting. Try the song samples, and if you like what you hear you'll love the album. Once you've tried one, you'll want them ALL.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great release by one of Britain's foremost electronic bands., July 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: In This Place Forever (Audio CD)
In this place forever is bursting with elements of strength, emotion, and truth centered around the realities of life. Mesh achieves a sound very reminescent of its early synth rock heroes, yet revives the the music with a very modern approach. Harsh beats, haunting melodies, atmospheric synths, and melodic vocals make up the post rock sound of mesh. In this place forever sparkles with gems such as "Shatters, "You didn't want me", and "I don't think they know". Mesh recieves a four star rating for their pledge to keeping the synth scene happening and fresh. Also check out Mesh's single "Trust You" for a good reminder of what making great electronic music is all about.

5.0 out of 5 stars NIN - okay......MESH - INCREDIBLE., February 5, 2000
This review is from: In This Place Forever (Audio CD)
The second album by Mesh, ITPF, is a well-crafted blend of synthetic pop music and industrial rave. While much of the mainstream only sings about love and happinness (not necessarily a bad thing), Mesh doesn't forget the reality of life and the hardships, sadness, frustrations, and even anger that come from love and happiness. This album explores all of the above and Mark Hockings demonstrates superb lyrical skill and by so doing, he paints a vivid picture of each song. His vocabulary exceeds many of his piers and he refrains from the blasphemy and cursing that bands like NIN need in order to express their feelings.

Sonically this album bests any of its previous work and its piers. "Involved" could easily be a #1 in all clubs. "Confined" and "You Didn't Want Me" are so melencholy it is almost frightening.

Get this album and after your 3rd or 4th listen you'll be trying to get your hands on any Mesh material you can. Their previous album "Fragile" is also a gem- but if you want the best that Mesh has put out, you'll have to get your hands on "The Point At Which It All Falls Apart". Nevertheless, ITPF is the perfect starter for 1st time Mesh listeners.

4.0 out of 5 stars Straight from the heart, September 19, 2004
This review is from: In This Place Forever (Audio CD)
This is my second Mesh album. Boy, it's not easy to find stuff from this band here in the States! But I'm glad that I did find this( Now if I could only get my hands on Fragmente 2...).

"In this place forever" is older in comparison to "The point at which it falls apart"; which was my first taste of this band. This earlier work is a bit harsher and much more dancable in comparison. Consider this to be more EBM, where the other leans more into the melodic synthpop classification. Both are wonderfully blunt and heartfelt works with lyrics that just drip with melancholy sadness and pessimism { "But this I know, I always make the friends that never stay."- Last breath of you } and pain {"...because you didn't want me. You never cried for me at all. You didn't love me, you were too far above me, then you watched me take the fall"- You didn't want me }. I think this is especially why I find Mesh so appealing. No band( that I know of ) writes this straight from the heart. It's pure, unadulterated emotion against a rather impressive backdrop of both guitars and electronics. Although I think the songs on this album are not as strong and consistent as the songs on 'The Point...', this is still a must have for anyone who already likes Mesh. The best songs by far are "You didn't want me", "I don't think they know", "Shatters" and "Last breath of you". Nice blending of emotions into some catchy EBM.
