4.0 out of 5 stars This disc is a very nice surprise..., February 8, 2006

I ordered this because I love jazz, especially with a Hammond organ in the mix, and especially the funky kind of jazz. I did not know about this group, but the samples sounded good so I took the plunge.

Wow! I don't know where these guys came from, but they can play! This is a great disc! I couldn't give it five stars since "Peaches En Regalia" was just too short! But it is well worth the money. They should be wider known in the jazz cirles after this disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just awesome!, June 18, 2007

Just caught these guys at the East Lansing (MI) Jazz Festival and they played an incredible set. The CD is great. Pumpkin Pie is by far the standout cut on this disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars B3--about as good as it gets!, April 3, 2007

Much funkier than their first release ("Waiting for the Boogaloo Sisters"), organissimo has hit a home run with "This is the Place". Jim Alfredson's mastery of the Hammond B3 is just that, with Joe Gloss' guitar conjuring up images of Joe Pass, among others. Randy Marsh lays down the beat (and blows a mean harp, to boot, on track 3). Alfredson actually takes the B3 to a higher level, as he not only knows full well how to operate/play the instrument, but plays the bassline with BOTH pedals and left hand--which translates to virtually seamless drawbar/leslie/vibrato transitions. A jazz organist who uses the pedals--YES!! Good stuff indeed. Warning: If you don't tap your feet to this CD, consider yourself hopeless.

To answer a previous review, these guys come from MICHIGAN! I go to see Jim & his crew whenever I can. I love the way they play. But I'm biased because I went to school with Jim & want to see him continue to succeed.
