This Is The Remix!!!,
By BRIAN (Holtwood, Pa 17532) - See all my reviews
This review is from: This Is the Remix (Audio CD)
THIS IS THE REMIX, is one of the best DC3 cds out. This has a variety of remixed songs that have been released and unreleased. Such songs already released were Say My Name(Timbaland Remix), Jumpin Jumpin(Jermaine Dupri, Da Brat, Lil Bow Wow and then goes into Azza's remix), IWPT2 was released on their album Survivor, Survivor(Remix ft.Da Brat)Emotion(Neptunes Remix),Bootylicious(Rockwilder Remix) and Bug A Boo(Refugee Camp Remix). As far as I know, No No No Pt.2(Extended Version),Dot(The E-Poppi Remix), Nasty Girl(Azza's Nu Soul Mix), Bills Bills Bills(Maurice's Xclusive Livegig Mix) and So Good(Maurice's Soul Remix) weren't commercialey released. This cd is great because why buy all the remixes on different cds when you can just buy this one cd so you can listen to them all on one cd. The highlight has to be the bonus track: Heard A Word by Michelle Williams from her solo album(To be released in April) My Heart To Yours. All in all, this cd is the best remix album out currently.

Usually, I like the original songs better than remixes, but I had to get this album because DC3 is one of my favorite groups. The best remixes to me are Bootylicious, No No No part 2, and Dot. My other favorite song was Heard A Word by Michelle.1.No No No part 2--same as album-released remix, only extended music breaks. 4/5 2.Emotions--redone vocals that are not as smooth as original, new, upbeat music (Neptunes); similiar to the style of the Christmas album. 2/5 3.Bootylicious--my favorite! same remix they released f/Missy. 5/5 4.Say My Name--totally different sound and lyrics; nice soul groove; sounds good. 4/5 5.Bug A Boo--old and new lyrics incorporated; same released remix version w/Wyclef. 3/5 6.Dot--this is a remix of the other song they did for charlie's angels; i never heard the original, but this sounds good. 5/5 7.Survivor--same as released remix w/da brat; sounds like original. 4/5 8.Independent women part 2--same as the remix on the survivor album. 4/5 9.Nasty Girl--same vocals, cool new beat. 4/5 10.Jumpin Jumpin--at first it's the same as remix already released (w/Lil Bow Wow, Da Brat, JD), but at the end is a new, slower version. 3/5 11.Bills, Bills, Bills--same vocals, beat at first sounds similiar to Whitney's "It's Not Right, But It's OK remix." 3/5 12.So Good--slower than original, new mix. 3/5 Bonus: Heard a Word by Michelle--I don't really care for her voice, but this is one of the best songs on the album; it will be on her album coming in April. 4/5

This latest offering from DC is hot! Forget their recent album 'Survivor' which was okay, but contained a few half baked songs and album fillers that shouldn't be there, this is the real stuff, that Beyonce, Michelle, Kelly (and all the ex members too) should be proud of.1.No, No, No (Part 2):The album starts of with this hip hop tune from Wyclef that sounds perfectly in place. 5/5 2.Emotion (Neptunes Remix): A good remix with a bit of hip hop, a bit of gospel, and a bit of Neptune trademark, a bit shabby in places, but otherwise fine.4/5 3.Bootylicious (Rockwilder Remix):You must have heard this on the radio, this is less clubby than the original, but has a better urban tune, oh yeah, and don't forget Missy Elliot! 5/5 4.Say My Name (Timbaland Remix):A slow jam with typical Timmy beats on it. The words change, however the song is just as good, if not ,better.5/5 5.Bug A Boo (Refugee Camp Remix Feat. Wyclef):A bit too ghetto-ish and too many things going on, but if you like that sort of thing, fine.3/5 6.Dot (E-Poppi Remix):A lot of strings & beats in the background, but good.4/5 7.Survivor (Remix Featuring Da Brat Extended Version): This is where the music really starts getting hot. Brat turns an okay song in to an alive anthem, with a wicked rap.5/5 8.Independent Women Part II :Taken straight off the Survivor album, this tune fits in perfectly with the rest, although it sounds different, and contains a 'Rocky & Bullwinkle' sample.4.5/5 9.Nasty Girl (Azza's Nu Soul Mix):This song is cool, and Azza's beats turn this into a slick, sly tune. Put some clothes on!5/5 10.Jumpin' Jumpin' (Remix Extended Featuring JD, Lil' Bow Wow and Da Brat)This is not really a remix, but the same tune with alternate (and better) lyrics provided by the So So Def Crew. To top that, just as you think it's gonna finish, it breaks into the Maurice Joshua remix of Jumpin' Jumpin' which I think is personally one of his best.5+/5 11.Bills, Bills, Bills (Maurice's Livegig Mix) This is a cool remix of Bills Bills Bills with a club beat, and sounds a bit like Thunderpuss if you listen closely.5/5 12.So Good (Maurice's Soul Remix) You've heard the original, now hear this. It starts different, kind of like the scene of a party with everyone talking and joking, and then breaks into the typical Maurice disco beat we are all used to. Good, but a bit overworked.4/5 Bonus Track :Hear A Word by Michelle Williams. It is 'So Good' (excuse the pun) to see how well one of them could sing on their own solo track, and this just prooves they can sing. This gospel song is a refreshing break from the normal DC 'in your face' songstyle, and frankly, after this Michelle's solo album (coming soon) is going to be great.5/5 Overall worth the money, especially if you wanna dance. Unlike J-Lo's remix album which is a bit stop & go, this is consistently good. Worth the purchase.

Good as far as remixes go,

I'm really not the biggest fan of remixes, because some of them go on way too long, and the original songs are usually better. However, I had to check this out, and overall I'm glad I did. Though the remix of Nasty Girl has the exact same vocals as the original and a very repetitive music arrangement to back it, it is by far the worst song on the album. The other songs impressed me a lot more. My favorites include "Bootylicious", which has an awesome guest rap from Missy Elliott, Say My Name, which is transformed into a smooth slow jam that sounds almost nothing like the original, and Bugaboo, which has a cool Latin-tinged piano part in the middle. Survivor is another highlight, with the powerful lyrics of Da Brat, and Heard a Word by Michelle Williams is the perfect finish for this disc, because it sort of winds everything down. However, if you're not a big Destiny's Child fan, or this is the first CD of theirs you're considering buying, I would advise going for Survivor, their third CD, or The Writing's on the Wall, their sophomore album.

I listened to this album in a Borders Books & Music in my area and I was excited but yet annoyed at this album. Some of these we have all heard before...including "No No No Part II" which is the radio version released. In addition there isn't really much of a remix to "Jumpin' Jumpin'" I was expecting more from Jermaine Dupri and the So So Def crew. It's just filled in rap with the same back ground making the song a bit longer but not by much. "Emotions" remixed sounds great and the harmonies are much better then the original. "Say My Name" Timbaland remix is OK but I've already heard this among others in "Love:Destiny" which was an exclusive album available in Target stores. So...if u have heard most of these remixes before or have the "Love:Destiny" (which was like 5 dollars or somewhere around there) album then I would NOT reccomend this. BUT if you got into Destiny's Child around their "Say My Name" and "Survivor" songs then I reccomend this...for it includes the song that started it all: "No No No Part II" featuring the talented Wyclef Jean of the Fugee's (Refugee Camp) which has got to be their BEST song to date and is a DC classic.

Dear Lord, What Happened Here?,
By The Groove (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: This Is the Remix (Audio CD)
It used to be that when artists released a new album, they released a NEW album. Now we get live albums, useless Holiday recordings, and shoddily-made remix releases. This album falls into the third category, and as far as remix albums go, the results are catastrophic. Predictible hip-hop remixes of singles we've heard a zillion times before abound, while the FEW house mixes are as flat as soda left at room temperature for hours. Listen, nobody says you can't do a remix album, but give the listeners some variety and a groove. I actually like Destiny's Child, but after "The Writing's on the Wall," their music is getting more and more vanilla. Should you feel the urge to get this CD, just say "no, no, no."
