This is a brilliant Cd filled with inspiring lyrics, multi-octave vocals, loud and talented guitars, in rhythm bass, and powerful drums. 3.0 out of 5 stars They're okay
Pretty good musicianship, pretty good vocals. However, they sound pretty generic and are not as heavy as I had hoped for. If you like more melodic, radio friendly hard rock, check this one out. If you like them, check out From Zero. They're melodic nu-metal, but they are FAR better then these guys, in my opinion.

This review is from: Is This Room Getting Smaller (Audio CD)
This is a brilliant Cd filled with inspiring lyrics, multi-octave vocals, loud and talented guitars, in rhythm bass, and powerful drums. Onesidezero and their debut "Is This Room Getting Smaller" gives a message of depression, while at the same time giving a soothing sound like everything's gonna be fine. The singer can go from a high pitched scream to a soft rhyrthmic hum. Some say they're nu metal, or like Hoobastank, but I assure, they're nothing like Hoobastank, and doing their own routine, with 3 guitarists, drummer, bass, and vocalist. It's their own ballpark.

Song by song breakdown:

"Instead Laugh": A great openner for the CD and the band. The song's of a woman and a man, and one or the other committing suicide cuz he/she can't have one another. Great intro and chorus.

"Holding Cell": A track about an abusive relationship. Good screaming, and even better ending to the song.

"New World Order": A song about resolution and seeing things clearly for the first time. Heavy Metal guitar and laced with screams. The drums are effective and give perfect rhythm.

"A Moment in Time": This is a great song, which seems to be about a funeral, or just losing a loved one. It's very soft, and the singer sounds like he's crying alot.

"Tapwater": Brilliant, hard song with raw energy about giving up. This was one of my favorites for a while. It has a lot of verses, and a little trailer guitar riff which, while quiet, is excellent.

"Shed the Skin": A raucious track that was never one of my favorites. It's good, but never develops a main point about it. Still good music, very hard guitar.

"Awake": Probably the second best track of the whole album! The quiet and distorted guitar sets the mood for insomnia, and the lyrics seem to hint at not being able to make a huge decision. It has a brilliant 12 second intro and a distorted stratchy outro.

"The Day We Lied": This one features acoustic guitar, and sounds mainstream. It's great, and is about a man who's about to be hung [although it probably has a deeper meaning than that]. Another great climactic ending [not an outro, just the end of the song]. Good stuff.

"Soak": Probably the most accessable track on the whole album. Great for the radio, but I've never heard it there. Smooth guitar and drums, with a great chorus. A scratchy distorted ending a little similar to "Awake"'s, only sunnier.

"Eight": The best song on the whole album. 4:40 of soothing riffs and pure forceful anger. Features low hums then incoherent screaming from the singer. Sharp riffs and great bass. The drums again set up a perfect rhythm for the whole song. Great all around!

"NeverEnding": This is probably my least favorite on the album. It's slow, and never picks up a riff or melody. The song itself is about boredom, or at least parts are. It has it's moments, and the chorus IS pretty good. about a 2 minute drumplay outro though.

"Underground": A great album closer, with a smooth base, and rad chorus. Listening to the guitar makes me feel like the sun's going out or something. Gives a great feeling, and has a 3 minute guitar outro for the whole CD, ending with a ghasp.

The whole CD is worth every penny spent for it. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely THE best rock album EVER, August 25, 2002

Haven't heard of OneSideZero before? Don't worry, I hadn't either 6 months ago. But I stumbled across their CD while browsing around Amazon.com, downloaded & previewed a few of their songs from their website ([URL]), and decided to buy their CD. It was the best decision I've ever made! There are no words to describe just how amazing this CD is because it honestly gets better with every listen. And it's so dynamic, the melodies are so beautiful, the guitar riffs mind-blowingly awesome that you will never tire of listening to this CD. Take my word for it, because I've listened it through so many times I swear the CD will wear out soon! Simply put: the sheer greatness of this album can't be conveyed with words. Get this album, let the wonderful music enrapture you...I promise you won't regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars God this band, February 3, 2004

I had the chance to see them come through Boise ID with Adema in 2002. I did not know anything about them nor did a buddy of mine I took with me to the concert. By the end of the nite after seeing the way they performed especially Mr. Radford me and my buddy were hooked on them. It was not until like 6 months later that I was able to find the CD and when I did I bought it up quick and it did not leave my player for 3 months straight. This album helped to define the summer of my graduation year and all in all helped me through some really tough situations in my life. I recommend this album to anyone and everyone and also keep a look out for Jasan Radford and Levon Sultanians new side band Abloom because they kick.

5.0 out of 5 stars Is This Album Getting Better, July 31, 2006

I've had this CD for years now, and it seems that I like it more every time I listen to it. This is arguably the best album in my collection. Often times employing three guitars, these songs can get really textured and melodic, but without being overbearing or bogged down. Stand out tracks are 'Instead Laugh,' 'New World Order,' and 'Shed The Skin,' but I'm personally drawn to 'The Day We Lied' (go figure, an acoustic doesn't have to be limited to strumming), 'Eight' (gradual dynamic changes rather than jumping from light to heavy, a nice change of flavor) and 'Underground' which has an over-the-top epic and tragic feel to it, making it a great choice for an album closer.

Side note - Onesidezero split from their label because they weren't given creative freedom when they began writing a sophomore release, and some members dabbled in side projects including Abloom. Onesidezero is now back together (minus Brett Kane?) and recording a new album as an independent band (although they've opted to keep the moniker onesidezero).

5.0 out of 5 stars Something New, August 1, 2003

Wow. I had the pleasure of seeing these guys live before I heard the CD and the show they put on was amazing. The music is the perfect blend of TOOL (psychadelic 8 minute songs that never get old) and Nirvana (catchy grunge-made-pop hooks). The guitar work on "Instead Laugh" and "The Day We Lied" is amazing, and while some bands three guitar assault sounds terrible (think Slipknot), onesidezero's mix of three guitars is perfect. The vocals are excellent, ranging from clean, beautiful vocals to a hardcore growl. The only song that seems a little off is "New World Order", but what the hell, everbody needs a single for the radio.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Those without this CD are missing an experience, July 21, 2002
This review is from: Is This Room Getting Smaller (Audio CD)
Its hard to sort through all the new punk and radio rock in the media today and actually find true Nu Metal bands that are unique and talented. Nu metal has grown from bands like Rage against the Machine,Tool,Deftones,311 and even Incubus into new bands today. Onesidezero along with others like Pressure 4-5, Boy Hits Car,Hoobastank, and Lostprophets are leading the way into the next era in rock. Onesidezero combines an excellent singer with an extraordinary band. The singer's melodic voice and powerful lyrics fit perfect with the three guitars' interlaced riffs. Smooth, solid drumming, especially on track 9, create an unbelievable experience. This album has to be heard from beginning to end in order to feel the full effect. It is one of the few CD's out today that's truely amazing all the way through. ...

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes, and the Music and getting larger, March 6, 2002

This review is from: Is This Room Getting Smaller (Audio CD)
This a great album, from track 1 to 12 the sounds are awesome. Onesidezero does an excellent job in writing both catchy and beautiful hooks and capturing the minds of anyone who listens. The track "Instead Laugh" is a perfect example of the power of their music. Lyrically the track is amazing, and the message so desperately needed to reach the youth of our country. When considering suicide, instead laugh.

On this note "Is this Room Getting Smaller" is one of the few great albums with a great message. Expect to hear more from this band in the coming months...they have a lot to say and lot of talent to get their message across.

If you like rock music or any variation of rock music you'll love this group and this cd....those who have heard them will agree (if the dont they dont know what good music is)....if you havent heard one side zero your missing out.
I first heard "soak" and "awake" after my friend told me about them and i was blown away. I bought the cd the next weekend and its the best 13 bucks ive ever spent. For those who love good guitar riffs..."instead laugh" and "awake" will amaze you. Ever song is great on this cd and it is amazing that they havent hit it big yet. My personal favorites are "Awake" , "Eight" , "Instead Laugh" , "A point in time" , "Underground" , and "Soak".
Hard to single songs out...but i do believe thess stand out. The first time you hear "underground" it will blow you away...you'll have to check it out.
If you are someone who likes underground groups that arent well known...one side zero will be a pleasent surprise....i await another cd from them and will be the first to buy it the day it comes out.
If you check them out and love what you find...another great song which isnt on the cd is "sleep through this"...go dl it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great all around CD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, November 29, 2001

This review is from: Is This Room Getting Smaller (Audio CD)
Last year I had no idea who these guys were. Then I saw them when I went to see BoyHitsCar (also great band) and was blown away. Their performance in my mind was so good I hadn't seen one like it since I saw Staind. If you like Staind, then you must buy this CD. The lead singer has a perfect voice for being both, loud, and soft. The best thing about the band is most songs are made with the use of three guitars, which creates a fresh new sound and gives off an original feel to the band, and to top it off the sounds from the drummer and bass guitar are out of this world. They are my new favorite band. This band will become a very big hit as soon as the public hears them. PICK THIS CD UP!!!!!
