I read this book to my class of third graders today, and they got a kick out of it. The illustrations are very cool and "retro," and it's fun to update the kids as to how the city has changed over the years. I found the text to be a bit stilted, but other than that, it's great, and definitely worth having in one's library.

I was first given this book as a child by my mother. I love it just as much now as I did back then. Sasek does San Francisco absolute justice with the way he captured the city with his beautiful retro artwork and commentary about each area. If you're from San Francisco you know exactly what he's talking about and get such a wonderful, familiar feeling when looking at the book. If you're not from San Francisco, this book will give you a very accurate taste of our charming city.

nice facts, lovely pictures & I never saw the original, so I don't know about all the fuss on the faded pictures.

I purchased this book solely on the fantastic illistrations but great content as well. my girls and i loved going thru the book several times and had great dicussions about traveling to san fran (which we are planning to do in the near future). i would highly recommend as a travel book for kids in fact, as it does a great job touching on all the fun things in san fran.

As a preschool teacher in San Francisco, This is San Francisco had my students so excited that they couldn't stop relating to the story. It took me three days to finish the book since the children wanted to relay their experiences visiting the various sights. A few places no longer exist, but it is still a great book to use as a historical reference. And if you are planning to visit San Francisco, I would take a minute to skim through this book as it has all the places you would want to explore within its pages. By the way, the illustrations are absolutely charming.

I bought this for my 3-year-old son a few months ago and it has become one of his favourite books, particularly since we visited San Francisco. I've read it out loud so many times I can recite most of it from memory now!

This is a great way to introduce little people to the history of various cities. I got this one for my niece so she could learn about where her auntie lives. She likes it so much I may get ger other cities to read.

This is a great book for beginning readers. Living here, my daughter loves the pictures and knowing that she has been to many places that she is reading about.

We got the book for our son to learn about San Francisco, as that's where we live. It's beautiful, informative and a lot of fun. I definitely recommend it.
