5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for infertile women and couples, October 9, 2002
By
Debbie (NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: This Too Shall Pass (Paperback)
First, I want to say the cover and illustrations are beautiful and bring a sense of calm just looking at them. Second, from the very beginning of the book I sobbed. Sobbed in a good way, it was like a release. When you wrote about Sharon's
dream, of course I identified, but when you mentioned the "amputation" scenario demonstrating just how far some of us would go to have a baby, I lost it. That point was SO POWERFUL. That's when I began to cry. You really brought it home there. After a short while my husband came into the room. At that point we were kind of reading it together. He had know choice as I kept nudging him saying, "Look at this. This is exactly what we went through." We identified with page after page. Some of it was so painful, because it reacquainted me with that rough period of my life, but in another way it brought peace in recalling just how hard I've tried to have a baby. I have comfort in knowing *I've tried almost everything.* Also, I agree and like your "twelve step" concept. So easy to understand and implement. As women we've been programmed, since childhood, to a certain way of thinking. Your twelve steps help us to reprogram and help us accept our, unexpected, childfree way of life. I find your suggestions invaluable.

Last, but not least, I enjoyed your poetry. It was beautiful! I was especially touched by the poems- * Unmade Memories, Absence Of Bliss, and Love And Prayers,* both my husband and I cried while reading them. Your heart is very beautiful, and I respect and appreciate your vulnerability. I'm sure that wasn't easy. Thank you for exposing yourself to help people like me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome--the first book to make me cry!, October 1, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: This Too Shall Pass (Paperback)
I have read all the technical infertility books out there--and not shed a tear. This book so capably covers the emotions that are buried during infertility, and made the pain finally surface for me. Wonderful poetry and heartfelt emotion make this book a must read. There simply is nothing else out there like it.

Bitter? Yes, we who are going through infertility ARE bitter. If you have gone through a few years of it you would understand. That's why Lori's poetry is so powerful. After bitterness comes acceptance. If you don't get the anger up it will eat you and your marriage alive.

Great little poem "For The Fertile World" which you can share w/friends and relatives who don't know how to handle this.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good resource for the emotions of infertility, July 4, 2000
By
Kathleen Coleman (Grapevine, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: This Too Shall Pass (Paperback)
I found this book short and easy to read; and very helpful in dealing with the emotional components of infertility. Regardless of what your final outcome is (having a biological child, adopting, remaining childfree)--the situations people face during infertility are all too similar and all too painful. The author, through her poems and writings, really spoke to many of my own feelings. There are lots of books about treatment of infertility and the various options, but this is the only one I have found that deals with the emotional aspect in a specific manner. I recently gave it to a friend who was experiencing secondary infertility and she found it very helpful. Families who have a family member going through infertility can read this and gain a real perspective on what the couple is going through.
