This Shining Sea is better than it looks. The premise is interesting. Young superheros from a comic book world manage to change the world in a way that makes it impossible for a terrible threat to continue. But it also changes the world in such a way that the world they know is gone forever.How they adapt, the friction between duty and responsibility and a number of other themes are explored. Phillies had a sequel, but he has put it on the shelf to run for President and, more importantly, to do a rewrite of this book. It took me more than twenty years to finish the book, having read a part of it and then finally gotten the copy I bought. It was still worth reading after the long delay and I look forward to the sequel. |
