Atmospheric and eerie,

This review is from: This Spectred Isle: A Journey Through Haunted England (Hardcover)
A large "coffee-table" book, which is actually where I first saw it. All the photos are blurry and misty-looking which palls as one goes through the book; it becomes boring. The content is interesting but not too informative about the site itself. Maps or other means of locating the chosen sites would be welcome. It's a novelty book but I wouldn't buy more of this man's work if it's all like this. Very "commercial", not very substantive.

Recommended for art lovers, photography buffs, travelers, Anglophiles, architecture lovers, and occultists. Tales of haunted places accompanied by gorgeous, almost disturbing, photos. If you're like me and love gargoyles, Green Man, or other carved faces you'll like this book.

Photos add a spooky edge to ghost stories,
This review is from: This Spectred Isle: A Journey Through Haunted England (Paperback)
If you love reading true ghost stories, you will love this book because it not only tells of spooky legends
in all the famous and not so famous sites around England, it also adds a photo of each site to go along with it. The pictures are purposefully made to look grainy and eerie but that's okay, because if you read these stories alone on a stormy night, it will only add to the creepiness. The author's prose makes him sound like he's telling you the stories while huddled around a fireplace in a cold, dank castle on a dark winter night. Most of these stories will make you shiver. I never knew how bloody and violent England's past actually was. I would list the best stories in the book, but I couldn't choose. They're all scary. A must for all true ghost story lovers! |
