Biography

Although Culture Club may now be more famous for its iconic frontman Boy George and his flamboyant on-stage antics, at the time Culture Club were groundbreaking for openly portraying homosexuality. Formed in London in the early 80s, Culture Club would help open attitudes to gays while managing to have many top ten hits songs around the world, most notably "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?", "Karma… Read more in Amazon's Culture Club Store

5.0 out of 5 stars "The best greatest hits album of the 1980's!", March 28, 2001
I regreted doing a review on this album, since it has been out of print for over a decade in the U.S., and I can't understand why Virgin America did not include this in 1990, as they did the other 4 Culture Club albums when they transferred them from the Epic American albums. But I'm going to talk about it because credit most go to where it is do. This was released in 1987, and it contained every hit Culture Club had that made it well universally. It had "It's A Miracle", "Victims", "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me", "Time" (Clock of the Heart), "Church of the Poison Mind", "Karma Chameleon", "Move Away" and "The War Song". To be fair, it also included "Miss Me Blind" and "I'll Tumble 4 Ya", two songs released on 7 inch singles only in the US and that were hits. And yes, there are other bonuses. "Love Is Love" is also included on this compilation, a song from the "Electric Dreams" soundtrack, and was a single that did well in Japan. Last, but not least, is that "Black Money" is on this album. This was never released as a single, but it is a classic. It is the soul of Culture Club, with George and Helen Terry blasting away. I will say this. This is the best greatest hits album of the 1980's. Even though it does not include great singles like "White Boy", "The Medal Song", "Gusto Blusto", and "God Thank You Woman", since they did not do well on the market, this album includes every single that did do well universally. That is also not mention a soul classic not released as a single. This group will always reign as the best. Thanks for reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasure seeker.............., September 29, 1998
By A Customer
If you are a Culture Club fan you'll REALLY love this CD. Every hit the group had is included on this CD except for "Mistake #3." It was also nice that they included "Love Is Love" from the "Electric Dreams" sound track. The film failed and pulled the sound track with it. As a result this song didn't find the audience it deserved. It's one of their nicer ballads. The CD also includes two of their popular remixes that burned up the dance floors in the 80s--"I'll Tumble 4 Ya" being my favorite.

Bottom line......if you LOVE Culture Club, you'll love his CD. I highly recommend this!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Original Collection, June 16, 2006

John Sposato (Syracuse, NY, USA) - See all my reviews
After Culture Club went DOA for a decade, the customary thing to do was put the hits together like this; also to fill up the contract. This was the last US release on Epic/CBS Records, and is possibly the rarest, as I found it by a million to one chance (CC on CBS CDs are as scarce as hen's teeth!). Shortly after, Virgin America opened and they reissued most if not all the studio albums, and then came countless repackagings of the most of the same material as this CD, some budget priced (I have one from Canada), others regularly priced (common practise in the business, I'm afraid!). You know how it is!
The liner notes have info on each track. "Time (Clock of the Heart)" came after "Kissing to Be Clever" in the UK, Eire, and free Europe, but it is on the album everywhere else, as well as the 2003 remaster. I didn't know "Black Money" was a posthumous single. Learn something new everyday! Some tracks were only singles here, like "Miss Me Blind" and "I'll Tumble for Ya", yet they have videos which had to be seen on UK TV somehow (MTV didn't get there until later in the '80s).
The remixes only fit on the CD (there were bonus tracks even in those days). I have a whole compilation of those.
