5.0 out of 5 stars Feel her sunshine, November 6, 2009

Cyndi Thomson emerged on the country music scene in 2001 with the poignant My World album featuring the hit single What I Really Meant To Say. Her emotionally honest lyrics, co-written with Tommy Lee James, established her as a rising star of great promise. So her fans were startled when she abruptly retired in 2002 after only one album. After co-writing Life Ain't Always Beautiful, a hit for Gary Allan, Cyndi returned to Capitol Nashville in 2006. She left the label in 2008 without releasing her sophomore album.

The current self-released EP is Cyndi's first release of original material since My World. Cyndi's honey-sweet voice is accompanied only by an acoustic guitar and background vocals. Unlike the My World album, which centered on songs of heartbreak, This Time features happier material. Only one track, Til I Get Over You, revisits the heartbreak theme. Sanctuary and the uptempo Do You Feel My Sunshine are about love going right. The title track and Like It's The First Time concern reconciled relationships after a separation. This may be symbolic, perhaps, of the reconciliation Cyndi seeks with her ever-patient fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional!, July 30, 2010

I've never written a review before but I would just like to say...she's back! I, too, played her "My World" CD over and over and over and eagerly anticipated more. Finally, so many years later, at least we have five tracks. And they are beautiful. Her voice is amazing, her writing talent is stellar. I already can't wait for more!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cyndi's all grown up!, November 2, 2010

I knew of some of CT's earlier singles through their rotation on CMT. I liked them, and her, but would categorize them almost as country-pop. Enjoyable and fun, but a little lightweight and disposable.

I didn't even know she was still recording until I stumbled on this, and I'm so glad I did. This is a stripped down, more mature set of songs. They're not going to be a thrust to super-stardom, but they'll be well-loved and played over and over by a small following. They're gorgeous, intimate, gentle songs with sweet harmonies and simple arrangements. Only in "Can you feel my sunshine" does that goofiness (and I don't mean that negatively) from the first CD show up - and it's the funnest song of the five, though the one I am least excited to hear when it comes up on my playlist.

I think this is well worth a listen...and re-listen.
