5.0 out of 5 stars What a find!
This is a fabulous second disc by a fabulous group of highly talented, innovative, and creative musicians and singers. What makes this disc so special is the seemless blend of folk, jazz, and even klezmer influences that feels totally right all the time. Thus old favorites, such as This Train, get a new and evocative new feel. The instrumentalists are tops, and the...

3.0 out of 5 stars an interesting mix
Wayfaring Strangers draws from a wide range of traditions, mainly bluegrass and jazz, as well as klezmer, to create a very well-crafted album. Unfortunately, this sometimes contributes to a labored feel on some of the songs, including the title track. But the CD has some great moments as well, especially the soulful "Who'll Sing for Me?" All three vocalists...

What makes this disc so special is the seemless blend of folk, jazz, and even klezmer influences that feels totally right all the time. Thus old favorites, such as This Train, get a new and evocative new feel. The instrumentalists are tops, and the biggest thrill of all is three--count 'em, three!--female vocalists, all of whom shine whether in solo or in harmony.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT!!!! Aoife O'Donovan is superb! Great harmonies too, August 11, 2004

This CD is incredible. It has a jazz beat with bluegrass harmony - an amazing mesh of musical styles. I would love to see these same three ladies stick around for a third album. Also, it would be great if the toured more frequently.

5.0 out of 5 stars wow, September 17, 2003

more amazing, soulful music that is truly beyond category, from what may very well may be the best band around...the singing is to die for,the playing is hot,and many styles fuse together in a most natural, organic way.
if there was any justice in this world, these guys would be famous....
(by the way, stick around at the end of the c.d.----there is a burning live version of the title track that is "hidden"...
bravo to The Wayfaring Strangers and their boss Matt Glaser for some really creative and gratifying music.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Quite Anything, January 15, 2006
This review is from: This Train (Audio CD)
I was drawn to a passage of the 7+ min "Cluck Old Hen" which has some fine jazzgrass
work. I bought the CD and was very disappointed. Not Bluegrass, not Jazz, not Folk
and IMO not very inspiring. Very well recorded. If your not a fan of true Bluegrass,Jazz or Folk then you may enjoy this. ~JDH~

I have seen this band in concert a number of times and have never NOT been thoroughly impressed and/or blown-away. The vocals (my bestfriend) is definately THE most talented person I know.
