Great Album,
This review is from: This War Is Ours (Audio CD)
After reading the earlier reviews, they made me a little upset. This album is spectacular. I recently heard these guys in concert, and loved them. I think it is unfair to judge this album compared to the previous album. I think it is funny that people are asking them to change their name so they don't get confused. Just because you are too simple minded to understand and hear the difference between Ronnie and Craig, doesn't mean that they have to change the name of the band.
All albums should be judged independently of any other releases from the band. If this album is worth 5 stars, give it 5 stars, if it is worth 4, give it 4. But what you shouldn't do is give it a low amount of stars because you still have a crush on Ronnie. Let's remember, it isn't Craig's or ETF's fault Ronnie isn't in the band anymore.

Yes, Escape the Fate has a new lead singer (Ronnie is in jail). Craig is WAY better a singer now then he was in blessthefall. If you are a fan of Escape the Fate originally, then you will like this too, although it is different! You can tell it's still Escape the Fate, but like any other band they have changed over time.
This CD has everything someone with great music taste would love! All the songs are hard and fast. Even the "slow" song, Harder Than You Know, is unexpected and amazing! My favorite song is "10 Miles Wide", but the least played song on my iTunes still has 65 plays (not counting the times I've listened to the CD straight up instead of on the computer)! BUY THIS ALBUM!

Well It's not so much Post-harcore as it is a straight up rock n' roll band with metal tendencies...
Basically what Escape the Fate was when Ronnie was the front man was nothing more than a good, make that superb Motley Crue tribute band. But once Craig Mabbit left Bless The Fall and joined just in time to write and record This War Is Ours they changed their tune...and for the waaaayyyyyy better. Craigs vocals mixed with Monte Money's suprisingly god like guitar playing brings to mind the memory of the guitarist/ front man teams of past like Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. Tracks like the album opening and bone crushing 'We Wont Back Down' and the angry, angst filled and deeply personal 'The Flood' destroy modern rock radio...and thank God for that. Softer ballads-ish tracks like the almost cheesey but just good enough to pass 'Ashley' and the melt in your mouth good 'Something' show balance. But it is tracks like the sequal 'This War Is Ours (The Guillotin Part II)' and '10 Miles Wide' featuring Buckcherrys Josh Todd on guest vocals that show what the band is really about. Is This War Is Ours the best rock album in years....well if you ask me yes, yes it is. Hopefully the boys will keep it up now that Craigifer has taken over.

Sounds Like A New Band,

I love the old ETF cd. It's usually what's in my CD player in my car, and rarely leaves it. But this new CD is nothing at all like the old ETF. After 2 people leave and a new person comes in, you should think about just making a new band. The CD is still good, but not what I was expecting. I loved Craig in blessthefall, his vocals were absolutely stunning to me, and now I have no idea what happened. He sounds really nasal-y in every song. There is also less screaming in this CD which is odd since Craig can scream very very well. It's worth picking up for fans of this genre of music, but it's in no way Escape The Fate.

good for what it is, But not escape the fate,
This review is from: This War Is Ours (Audio CD)
ok first off let me say this album is great, the songs are catchy, the riffs are good and the vocals are great for what they are. Craig's voice has matured A LOT since bless the fall, I always thought his voice was a bit whiny in BTF but that is almost non existent in this album. My only gripe is this isn't the same band anymore. I realize they are trying to move on without ronnie, but they should of changed their name with their new singer. I have to say if i would of listened to this album without ever hearing of ETF or if you would have given me this c.d. and not told me it was ETF i would think it was phenomenal. but just the fact of knowing what they were and what they are i find myself being bias without wanting to. I can still hear a bit of the old ETF in the guitar style and drums. but 10 mile wide sounds like buck cherry in the second verses(just noticed that as i was writing review, sorry). but the vocals just aren't ETF. it's impossible for craig to mimic the vocal styles of ronnie and hearing him try them every once in a while especially in the flood just makes me cringe. If there trying to move away from the Ronnie Style ETF then that's great but stop doing the vocal tricks and give us some more metal like we want and stop creeping towards this pop-metal. I hope they realize this for there second album.

A decent album with a few really good songs and a bunch of ho-hum, sort of boring stuff. Still worth the purchase.

First off I'll say "this is a good band". In my opinion this is not the best album they've made. Don't get me wrong it's a lot better than most stuff now adays, but in my opinion it is a little bit too "mushy" too much about love and that sort of thing. If you like heavy music with that kind of lyrical content you'll probably love this album, but in my opinion heavy music and mushy lyrics don't belong together. But it's not a bad album, I just prefer the more traditional heavy music on the self titled album. I think it's there best album.

From a Music Fan, Not a Scene Chick,
This review is from: This War Is Ours [2 Disc Deluxe Edition] (Audio CD)
This band makes good music, period. I really love this cd, but there are a few complaints/critiques I'd like to make. This band seems like it could go either way, with songs like "This War is Ours," "The Flood," and "We Won't Back Down," having a more metal sound and songs like "Harder than You Know," "Ashley," and "You are so beautiful" sounding like something that could be played on contemporary rock or even pop stations. As a lifelong fan of all things metal and hard rock, I can't be anything but pleased with the metal tracks, especially Monte's riffs. This guy is really one of the best new guitarists out today. The softer tracks really don't do it for me, but they're great songs for what they are (theyre not metal or nu-metal or even hard rock all the time). I don't know why "Harder Than You Know" didn't hit the airwaves harder than it did, I thought it had everything needed for a rock/pop hit. As far as the "new" vocalist, Craig Mabbit, in Blessthefall he sounded great, but he's really forged a home here with Escape the Fate.
There are a lot of reviews on here rating this cd negatively because the old singer, Ronnie, isn't on the cd. Bands break up and members leave, its happened to the best bands in the world, from Van Halen to Black Sabbath. The Ozzy Years were comparable in quality to the Dio years in Black Sabbath, and both are legends. I'm not comparing this band to either of those legends. But people really need to get over the fact that Ronnie left the band. The truth is, he made his bed, he has to lay in it. Escape the Fate had a choice to make, between keeping Ronnie as the lead and finding a new lead. This cd proves they made the right decision. If Ronnie had stayed in Escape the Fate, they couldn't have toured in different states because he committed a felony and couldn't leave the state. Without Ronnie, they've been able to record two good cds, tour all over america, and really make a name for themselves in the industry. At this point, Craig has been on more ETF cds than Ronnie, its time people recognize him as the rightful lead of the group, for one, and the BETTER lead, for two. This cd makes for a real good listen. If you're put off by bands that make radio-accessible songs, you might get a little turned off by the pseudo-radio-rock sound of a handful of songs on here. But like I said, I'm a fan of metal, and I've even warmed up to the softer songs, I consider them my guilty pleasure. This band has worlds of potential, and anyone into rock, be it metal, hard rock, soft rock, etc ought to give this cd a few spins. My only advice to anyone purchasing this cd is to upgrade to the deluxe edition. "Bad Blood" and "Behind the Mask" are worth the few extra bucks, plus a remix of "This War is Ours," by Slipknot's Clown, which is a pretty mediocre remix as far as remixes go, but includes an extra verse that rocks pretty hard too.
