Book Description

Mayor Thomas Menino’s decision not to seek reelection sets off an earthquake within Boston’s small political world. Then comes the tsunami: A dozen candidates hit the streets in search of votes in the first open race for mayor in thirty years. “This Way To City Hall” follows them and their teams, starting with the night word leaked out about the mayor’s decision and ending with Election Day.

Gintautas Dumcius, from the Dorchester Reporter, is the go-to person for local political information and analysis in Boston. With in-depth reporting Gintautas looks at all sides of political issues and, with this fine book, he brings the 2013 campaign to life from wire to wire. 2013 was the first truly contested race in Boston in 20 years and now with "This Way to City Hall" we have an outstanding history of a campaign. A must read for whose who enjoy big city politics and Boston history. - David Manzo

5.0 out of 5 stars A roadmap, a recap. 'This Way' ties it all together. January 24, 2014
By @mreils
With key insights in the race to replace retiring Mayor Tom Menino, Dumcius' "This Way to City Hall" is a great read to catch up on the process, players, and politics that landed Boston its first new mayor in 20 years. Glimpses of seemingly second-tier candidates who had their moment in the sun, campaigns that fell apart -- or never quite got it together -- as the preliminary approached, and the semi-employed media/bloggers who led the field in covering a campaign that pulled candidates from across the city.
